They are pretty bad.

last year I had to abandon our car and walk the last mile home. A SEAT (Golf) came along and didn't even get as far as we had!

Try carrying chains or concrete slabs around in the boot.

If it had been left hand drive maybe.

Funnily enough I have been looking out for an omega to canabilise. One from the Iberian peninsular would be far easier than cross channel!

The 4x4 of choice in rural Spain is the Mitsibuchi Pajero

I thought Pajero meant "W***er" in spanish, or is that an urban myth?

Costs Jag money to run & drives like a combine.

I think I'm with Guy, TBH. A 4x4 is at least as expensive to run as a V6 Omega but without the performance, handling or refinement. If you have a regular requirement to drive in tough conditions, they're obviously of interest but I'd rather stay home the couple of days a year when the roads are sh1te and have a nicer vehicle to drive for the other 363 days.

I believe it means "pi**" I think. Whatever, it was a great example of poor multi country use badging.

Today was a 4x4 day here. Absolutely torrential rain again for 24 hours. Mud and rocks everywhere on roads, banks collapsed closing off one lane and so on. I am grateful though that it didn't fall as snow......

The 4x4 of choice in rural Spain is the Mitsibuchi Pajero or the small Nissan. They are pretty scathing about anything else particularly Vitaras. There are plenty of very old series one type land rovers (Santanas) made under licence in Franco's era still left running. It would be a very cold day in hell before I had one of them!

We need a 4x4 for about 10% to 20% of our driving only. I can confirm that an Omega is probably the worst off road car ever. It also accounts for a lot of the problems we have or are having with the car!

Yes they are 4 by 4.

Do these have the same engines as the Omega?

Are they any good? I'm thinking after 10 years of "leaving" the Omega fold. I reckon I have done my time.

Here is one but it is limited. Would it be faster if I took the limiter off?

I have always wondered why they mostly begin with an E. There were some that began with numbers but what about the GT1?

General Car Chat / exhaust manifold change in situ update
« on: 04 January 2010, 18:44:13 »
Quite pleased with myself and Mrs Varche. Despite it lashing it down with rain (three changes of clothes) we got the manifold off, cleaned up,  back on with new gasket, SAI pipes and heat shields back on, exhaust back on. What a load of fiddling about with no space.

Tomorrow the B***** bolt (dipstick tube, lifting eye and water pipe) and refill with coolant.

Not a nice job at all. Drinks all round.

General Car Chat / Re: feking alloy wheel locking key
« on: 31 December 2009, 15:58:40 »
I don't rate the three pin ones at all. Had to have a wheel ground off on the day I set off on holiday after the pins sheered off in the careful hands of Mr Qikfitt.

I was so mad that I wrote to vauxhall about how rubbish they are. they didn't even bother replying.

Since then the only person that ever puts or takes my locking wheel nuts off is ME.

Is that all?  hardly done anything!

P.S. If you are thinking of selling I will give you 600euros (including delivery) and I will run you to the airport afterwards. ;D

General Car Chat / Re: Left Hand Drive

As someone living in Spain put off by the high secondhand price of LHD Omegas outside the UK , I would say your chances of getting something for that price in the UK will be about nil!

You could try specialist dealers in left hand drive cars in the UK. Do a search on google Uk as there are a number of them.

Don't forget that when you get the car back to wherever you live it will have to be road legal in that country after so long (reg plates, local tax and MOT plus whatever other costs). Of course if it is in the UK then you might as well look for a RHD but even then there won't be many manual Omegas at that price.

Good luck with the hunt. If you find two I will have the other one!

Here is a bit more to have a look at.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2000-00-CADILLAC-CATERA-Shock-Absorber-MONROE-MA825_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c51ee3197QQitemZ190353125783QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

EBay USA vendor rockautollc

Price each 95 dollars! Postage for a pair to Uk/Spain is a whopping 244 dollars.

If you click on item description then it shows a shocker that looks like a GM rear elite shocker except the air valve doesn't look to be in the same position.

Here is my question. There was a vendor on German EBay ,selling to the EU, gas shocks with an airline. They worked out at about £90 for a pair from memory (hasn't got a listing at moment Edit yes herehttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-gas-shock-absorbers-rear-new-Opel-Omega-A-Senator-B_W0QQitemZ160379951651QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item255763da23 ). When connected to the Elites' air levelling system do they work the same as GM part or once pumped up do they stay the same level regardless of weight in boot/towbar?

Has anyone tried  UK Monroe? I know it is Christmas and all that but........I would have thought this would be a real boon for anyone with an Elite! Me included.

I think there would be quite a bit of interest from OOFers in these BUT I would want to see them in the flesh first before we started buying in numbers.

The picture (and it may only be a generic picture of a shocker with an airline connector )doesn't look like I remember my shockers at the back on the saloon. Mine has an upward pointing top bolt and not the loops top as well as the bottom.

Maybe someone with access to a UK Monroe catalogue could have a look and see if the part number MA825 is available to the UK (or better still for me Spain!) ?
