Omega General Help / Re: Omega V6 downpipe gasket

Are the frontpipes the original/genuine GM 2.6 articles?

Just thinking... when you fit the earlier frontpipes to 2.6/3.2 manifolds you have to grind a few mm off where the pipe extends beyond the flange.  If you don't the joint won't close up properly.

I just want to drop in place with less hassle I actually have an ex plod 3.0ltr engine so if this is the easiest option I’d gladly take it, I’m not racing it or going drifting in it, it’s for my Astra van that has a very big audio system in it…[/img]

I'd say you will certainly have less hassle with the 3.0L lump, especially if you already have one that I presume you know the condition of!

You'll still be able to use your current 2.5 ECU so there'll be no need to change the immobiliser chip in the key or make any other wiring changes.

An alternator upgrade might be a good idea though - the standard 120A unit struggles to supply anything approaching 2kw in winter with lights on etc

Would the 3.0 not be a better match?

For the extra 5bhp the 3.2 gives over the 3.0 I'd say you could potentially have a lot of issues to contend with on the electrical side... sensors having different connectors... different coil pack setup...

Bung a set of 3.2 manifolds on a 3.0 and you'll probably make up most of the power difference with that alone.

The external trim strip covering the rear roof pillar to quarter panel join is also a leak hot spot - not sure if the plastic peg sockets shrink or what, but a thorough clean and nice bead of body sealant solved the problem for me.  This was after years of trying to locate where the water was coming in, even dusting everything in chalk.

still looking .
my sjc you dont want to sell justthe fronts ?

I believe the profile of the sill covers are different - they are certainly different part numbers between pre & post facelift - and these are the moulded ones so would not sit correctly if that is the case.  Happy to send them out for you to try but I'm pretty sure you'd be returning them.

not having a front one to hand to look at but i assume the design is physically similar to the rears .the sensor 'pick up area' is exactly in line with the mounting lug.i wonder if replacements are identical or could be off centre in any way ? explaining the rotation difference or the body depth is in any way slightly different.?   as mentioned, replacing (or at least checking/cleaning) the toothed ring would at least make that part eliminated.

I could not tell a difference between the replacement sensors and the ones I had before. The thought has crossed my mind, that there could be a slight difference, although the OEM number matches.

Either way, I am very excited to replace the hubs and perform new measurements. They were ordered today.

By the way; Haynes manual states the hub nut to be torqued to 320 Nm. That sounds extremely high. Thoughts on this? My biggest torque wrench goes to 210 Nm, and I'll probably turn it some extra degrees afterwards and be happy.

210 will be enough to let you drive it to a garage for a final torque-up with the right equipment.

Pedal test trick to get the code?

I removed and opened the breather box, and retrieved my errant drill bit  :) It was really lodged in there, there's no way it would have made it into the crankcase, but I'm still glad I got it back for my own piece of mind (and because it was my only 1mm drill bit)

If there's a next time.... maybe wrap some tape round the shank of the drill bit so it can't fall inside  :y
