Engine ECU fault code is "service transmission soon"

I have for sale a complete good condition 3.2 V6 engine, complete with ancillaries, ecu and chip.

so that's engine, alternator, aircon compressor, PAS pump, Siemens ecu and key chip. I can probably find a wiring loom, too if needed.

The engine has been freshly removed from a 2003 manual car, so has the crankshaft rear bearing fitted, although this is easy to take out. The ecu and matching chip come from an auto Omega.

True mileage unknown - this is not the original engine from the vehicle ( typical ex-plod ) It was replaced in 2006, shortly before the car left the force.

£300 and I'll consider delivering it for you depending where you are in return for some beer tokens

General Car Chat / steering racks
« on: 10 April 2013, 23:35:21 »
not sure why yesterday's thread got locked, but I'm sure it won't be because of steering racks...

A steering rack has the key advantage over a steering box in that it gives far superior steering feel. This is due to the innards being based on gears rather than recirculating balls and sliding elements. You can instantly tell if a car has a rack or box from the dead feeel about straight-ahead.

A steering system, either rack or box will give much better handling if mounted in front of the axle line than behind it. This is almost entirely due to the arrangement giving an inherent toe-in to the outside wheel in turns, thus giving the driver slightly more turn than he's desired or better handling to put another name on it.

Adding a rack to an Omega B is what I'd call a serious modification, my feeling is that you might as well fit a front-mounted rack to get the best of both worlds.

Actually, getting the geometry right is not too difficult - just make sure that there is NO bump-steer. Ideally, the rack position should be correct to the nearest half millemetre. The wishbone pivot lines are not parallel, so the rack can be mounted fore or aft a fair bit.

I would say rack vs box is a no-brainer, whereas front-or-behind the front axle depends more on what design your sump is.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / speed signal
« on: 21 March 2013, 22:08:44 »
On Omega B, the ABS ecu generates the speed signal used by the speedo, stereo, etc., etc

does anyone know what the speed signal actually is ?

My guess is that its PWM, but I don't know the on/off ratio vs road speed.

might it be in some stereo information for example ?

I'm fitting an alternative ABS system to a car of mine and need to still drive the speedo
