Did some welding the other day - on the kit car - to make up some brackets.. since I last used my little Clarke 150 I've bought a new welding hat (R-Tech) and gas (Hobbyweld) and what a difference they've made! The R-Tech hat is so much better than the Lidl one - as in I can actually see the weld puddle move around - and the gas is so much better than the BOC cylinder that came with the welder as there is almost no spatter now..

Not bad for not having touched it in a year, I thought!

Then I fitted and wired in the reverse & fog lamps which are mandatory for the IVA:

Looks good, about a million times better than my last effort at any rate.  ;D

How long do you think before you'll be ready for IVA and then the subsequent dismantling?

Well .. last time I asked the engine guy when he thought he'd be finished with my engine, he said "it won't be soon" or words to that effect, so I think it's going to be a little while! Realistically I think my to-do list is now:

Heater (still need to lay upside-down in the footwell and connect the water & air hoses up .. I don't really fit upside down in the footwell, so need to enlist some help!)
Carpets (which I'm putting off until all the fibreglass work is done)
Escutcheons for the roll hoops (fibreglass work!)
Fit the harnesses (drill one hole .. but I need to put the car on the ground then jack it up high enough that I can get the drill in underneath between the car and scissor lift ;D)
Re-fit dashboard & seats
Fit the sidepipes as far as I can (cut holes in the fibreglass, make mounts, but no engine to mate the front end to yet)

And then the engine & gearbox need to go in so I can get a propshaft and exhaust manifolds made up.

I have two 'spare' engines - one is a complete runner - and I'm half tempted to clean the running engine up, throw a manual flywheel & clutch on and then get the exhaust etc made up using that. Although when I say that, the clutch isn't cheap (engine builder has my clutch to balance with my built engine) and it isn't exactly easy to put something the size of a big block engine in .. especially when my "runner" has iron heads and iron manifold.. short engine alone is ~300Kg.

So I'll keep whittling the bits away and see who finishes first - me, or the engine guy! I'd really like to be done next summer..

That's a cracking 'build' there, keep going!

I'm very much at the other end of the spectrum no matter what I do and the love I lavish on her she just looks a total shed and is thanking me by having another problem arise that needs to be cured asap. So, as per the thread...

Relocated DISpack to NS wing between engine and PAS reservoir, because the sealing job I did on the scuttle was only half effective, the silicone didn't go off fully before the rain set in a couple of days later, hence misfire. Fitted a spare used 'good' Bosch DISpack which ran a bit lumpy on, but the point is I then didn't have a 2 hour faff in the rain to replace it, it was the work of moments to swap it out for my brand spanking new Bosch one still in box. I'll retrieve the original DISpack from the scuttle at some point, but for now she runs well, and it doesn't matter how much the scuttle leaks, it won't hurt anything.  :y

On the plus side - I now know that used 'good' DIS pack can go in the bin.
-I don't have to seal the scuttle best I can, hope, then wait for heavy rain to see if she starts missing - meaning a stuffed DIS pack again. I can do that when the weather is dry.
-I might actually have a day this month I'm not working on my car!  :y

I've yet to see a (non damaged) scuttle leak.  The leak is always between the windscreen glass and the rubber strip.  Most of the time, pushing the strip back on fully resolves this (they start to come off every time the scuttle is removed), sometimes they need a bit of titillation.

No sealant though ;)

Never had to resort to sealant.  You always fix the problem, not try a bodge.

When I bought my 2.5 estate in 2015 the coil pack was taped to the top of the engine. I relocated it to its proper place, and fitted new leads. After changing the exhaust system, oil filter with spin on (canister was overtightened and broke), clutch, rear doors, MAF sensor, crank sensor, starter and heater fan, it turned out to be the last Omega I would own, and I run it still. Long may it last, I say.

Watched the new owner drive my 3.2 away, going to miss that V6 sound.

No Omega in the tunnie household now, first time since 1996 when FatherT got his GLS  :o

1993, if you count a Carlton.
