Mini Cooper Exhaust Q...
« on: 13 February 2018, 17:20:41 »

As above, 2006 non S 1.6 petrol.

Lass at work has one with a detached back box ::)

Looking at it, it's a single pipe to the cat flange.

Question is this: are the studs on the cat pipe or the main exhaust?

Looks like a straightforward enough job once the car is off the ground, and the exhaust itself is cheap enough... :y

2 piece from the cat back on a Cooper S.

The studs are on the rear section, that goes to the rear of the car and off to 1 box while the other box joins accordingly. Hard to describe but simple when you see it.

You also need 2 sets of clamps (1 set for each box) and be careful of the studs on the boot floor as they will shear off from the body if you are not careful.

Ta, but not the S ::) so only one back box...

Existing rear cage and mounts in good condition, so if I do this, I would be aiming to reuse the cage and leaving mounts alone ;)

If the bolts that hold the clamps together come undone, then yes, reuse the clamp as pattern ones cause the exhaust to hang low.

You will need a new gasket at the front of the pipe. Do you have the chrome line exterior pack (chrome trim on the exhaust)? If you do, it does not fit pattern exhausts right so most people end up leaving it off.
