Title: Fuel prices
Post by: bob.dent on 14 July 2006, 15:20:57
Prior to getting my Meega, I had (no guffaws please) a Citroen Xsara 1.9 turbo diesel estate - sh*t car but reliable and good fuel economy of approx. 45mpg.

Since I got the Omega which only averages 25-26mpg, the price of bloody fuel hasn't stopped going up, and I read in today's paper that fuel prices are set to reach a new high due to the bloody idiots in the Middle East that never stop knocking two tons of sh*t out of each other >:(

However, I found a website called petrolprices.com. Enter your post code and it will tell you where the cheapest fuel can be found in your area....how cool's that 8-) I admit that there's usually only a few pence per litre difference, but every penny counts as far as I'm concerned!

Could be useful. I found that sometimes the brand of fuel can make quite a difference to economy.  I can get 20 to 30 miles more to a tank from one brand of fuel to another, which can negate the small saving per litre!

Presume you have all registered on www.pipelinecard.org when it ever kicks off could be a nice little saving.
Just discovered shell still do 'points' although doesnt seem advertised, local garage should have a leaflet.

I know none of these mean much, but every little helps
(which reminds me tesco's doing 5p off a litre again with your shopping)

Im never done filling this baby up and i get decent fuel consumption, but have to take the wife to work and then go myself, i may be a bit lighter in the pocket due to the weight of the car and size of the engine, compared to the mondeo........ but god its worth it ;D i love the sweet growl of that v6 so much, half the time i drive with the radio off, and window down a bit, maybe this will wear off when i have owned the car a bit longer, but i doubt it lol  :D

It depends on the work i do as how far i go on 38l......normally if i dont get out of Swindon and just do constant town work....i get 125miles....if i do all motorway work....at a naughty 80mph i get 200 miles outa 38l

My spend is usually £300/month on lpg......plus £20 on petrol/month

I have an account with Countrywide.....use a key an pin number at the pump....fill up and go.
I get discount on the lpg......being a member of the Shropshire LPG users....pay em £10/year to be a member.....i know it sounds mad.....im no where near Shropshire.....but they used to have a deal with Countrywide to get discount on the LPG.....so basically im a member get the discount....about 5/6p a litre.....but unfortunatley Countrywide stopped giving discount to new members of the Shropshires LPG users about 7 months ago......but existing members still get the discount....so im happy  :)

Gotta remember to keep paying the subscription to the Shropshire LPG users  ;)

Cheers

Usually no......if it does change your insurance comp.

Mine just wanted to put the copy of the lpg certificate on file.....no difference to the premium

Just got back from a couple of weeks in South Florida.  Had a real laugh as all the petrol stations have gone 'pre-pay' in an effort to stop 'fill and run' type petrol thiefs.
They're starting to advertise 'economy' cars and are really worried about the future of the gas guzzler.

Why the panic?

Petrol has gone up to $2.80 a gallon.  That's about £1.60!!!!!!!  When we said we pay around $8.00 a gallon, they thought we were joking!

Witchya there Bob!! I'm seriously considering a Monaro next year, (And believe me, having sat in an LS1 a couple of weeks ago I do not say this lightly!!), but I wouldn't complain in the slightest if I had to keep my Omega estate!!

Thought the tank was 75 litres???

On the LPG subject, how is the LPG tank protected in case of a accident, that's the bit that worries me!!

Certainly bigger than 60l, even the Cav was 69 litres. I can pay more than £60 to fill up - at 92p/l, so I'm guessing closer to 80l.

Was interesting lately - normally get a FC reading of 300-310 miles for a full tank, this is with 2 mile trips to the supermarket and daily 8 mile trips each way dual carriageway driving to work. Went up to Scotland recently, stopped to refill in Fort William (after some 300 miles on the motorway - 1 stop, and 2-3 miles town travel to get onto motorway) - FC came back with 512 miles. I could have kissed the miggy. Quite a graphic demonstration to me how poor the miggy is around town, and how unsuited to my day-to-day life. But while I can afford it, I'm not swapping her for anything.

It has pressure cut off valves before and after the tank.....do any damage to the filler pipe or the pipe to the engine and the valves shut the lpg off.

If you manage to hole the tank.......then run  ;D

Before the MV6 was stripped I drove it about 5 feet under its own power on gas.

In one day I drove

A rubbish Saab LPT hire courtesy car, test drove silver CD and moved the MV6 the last one was best

The 2.6 was actually pretty good made the turbo Saab feel slow
