General Discussion Area / Horrible news
« on: 13 April 2012, 15:41:38 »
Met up with a friend of mine this morning. Turns out he's got cancer, he's a top bloke and really would help anyone out, he's in excellent spirits, and is obviously hoping for the best. I couldn't believe it when he said, me and my youngest (good family friend) looked at each other in amazement when he said it. Shocked the life out of me and really put things into perspective of how lucky we really are!

Right, an Omega is in the shortlist, but I need something which is going to cost about £500, has rear wheel drive, 200+ BHP, 6 cylinders and a manual gearbox. An Omega is defiantly on the cards, but what else is there, which could fall into that category?

General Car Chat / The S Class Mercedes from 1991
« on: 09 April 2012, 14:49:56 »
My son just showed me this video from 1991, it's the Merc S Class of that era, I was just looking at some of the little touches on it, and it doesn't really have much less than the newest S Class, for 1991, what a masterpiece  :y

General Discussion Area / This bloody fuel shortage
« on: 31 March 2012, 19:48:42 »
Nearly all the garages in Ashford are out of fuel, Shell ran out this afternoon, Tesco went yesterday, Sainsburys went this morning, BP went this afternoon, only a couple of the back street garages have fuel. Most people are so low hunting for it, a few have ran out.

General Discussion Area / Mouth ulcers
« on: 27 March 2012, 18:09:53 »
What will get rid of mouth ulcers, my youngest boy suffers something chronic, he flatly refuses to take medication because he says "makes it worse in the morning", bonjela really doesn't touch it, salt water he refuses because he tried it before and it made no difference (I'll stick up for him on that too). Any ideas?

General Car Chat / Poxy fuel leak again! Stupid injectors.
« on: 26 March 2012, 21:51:16 »
Yet again one of the 7 Series has blown its leak off pipe, which I thought was cured with new fuel lines (been driving it around for over a week now with no issues). Driving home Saturday evening strong smell of diesel started coming through from somewhere, looked at my range which two minutes prior to this said 62 miles, now reading 24. Kind of worked out what it'd be, looked down at the range again, and have never seen a range computer go down like that, dropping 2 miles pretty much every second. Pulled over, RAC called waited hour and a half, sat there embarrassed. So I knew the problem was an injector, but was delaying it really hoping its go away however it hasn't, a lesson there kids. I think what annoyed me the most was not the pipe, nor the fact knowing it was an injector it was the amount of fuel it lost because fuel isn't cheap these days. Nor are injectors it seems, absolute cheapest at £250 + VAT each  :(.

Got my youngest son to remove engine cover and investigate what pipe was broken, whilst I decided whether to kick the rear 1/4 panel in or not. Anyway it is leaking at quite a rate too.

General Car Chat / MOT failure today
« on: 13 March 2012, 21:34:06 »
One of the 7's failed the MOT today from a tester who I know to be extremely picky. Even the owner of the garage (who I know) isn't as picky as him, get on well with him actually always a fair bloke, loves a balljoint but fair (the owner that is). Anyway failed on three tyres, a supposedly bent alloy, and on the same bent alloy an out of shape tyre, and the tyre rotation was on the wrong way round.

The bent alloy was the bit which got me the most though, mainly because I MOT'd the other 7 Series with the same wheel on and it passed no trouble, not even an advisory for the supposed out of shape tyre. More surprisingly the two front tyres which it failed on seemed fine to me, bit of extra wear on the edges, but all legal with a good 3mm of tread. So I'm somewhat confused, seems different testers pickup on different things, wouldn't complain about the garage as I always use them.  :-\

So it'll be a morning of wheel swapping between cars tomorrow, so there is an advantage of two sometimes  :-\
