Had this on the 3.2 and all the sensors and motors checked out ok.

Ended up being the purple/black wire chaffing against the arch liner where the loom runs up to the Levelling ECU.

Had this on the old Elite Estate - checked out sensors and motors ok - turned out to be a broken wire in loom on inner wing between front sensor and motors - bugger to find.

Had this on the 3.2 and all the sensors and motors checked out ok.

Ended up being the purple/black wire chaffing against the arch liner where the loom runs up to the Levelling ECU.

Could well be a rough road put the final nail in the coffin so to speak, Will have a gander when possible  :y

As said, needs codes read to give you a fighting idea.s

There are no codes relating to this I've checked TB, Although not a Tech2 but i presume any code reader would pick up all the error codes ?

If you are getting a Range message, either there is a code in the headlight ECU, or the single wire from the ECU to the MID is buggered.

Depends on the code reader. I suspect that the code reader used on your car just did engine codes, in which case it won't tell you what the fault is to show the range fault  ;)

Does anyone know how the sensors work? Are they just variable resistors or do they give a digital output?

Mine comes up with range message as soon as I move off and I've found the front sensor is shot.. No linkage or innards..

Thinking it might be easier to spoof the reading the level unit wants.

Carl,

Surely it'd be easier to replace the faulty bit.  :-\

...and hence have the system adjust the lights correctly according to level of the car. So other people aren't blinded by incorrectly adjusting Zenon/Hid lights. Which is the whole idea, after all. :)

Had a similar problem with mine when I first bought it..Range message would appear sometimes but not always and traced that back to a perishes wire where it enters tha plug for the front sensor.

Live data showed voltage  at rear sensor but less at the front so that did atleast give me a starting point.Replaced damged section of wiring and plug and all was well again.

Easier, maybe, But at £100.. Cheaper to spoof it.

Thinking as it's the front, then it shouldn't have as much impact on the aim level.

At the moe, the aim is very short so not keep on high speed driving at night..

Managed to get rid of the message for now anyway, Now I've said it prob jinxed it..

Tried cleaning the front/rear sensors and making sure they are silky free, 20 odd miles no message poping up with lights off/on.

Will update on how long this lasts.
