New Springs
« on: 23 December 2016, 19:25:02 »

I promised myself that when I had some money coming in, I'd replace all four tired springs on my car. That time has come, so does anyone have any suggestions where I source them for sensible money, and not the £300 each that ECP are currently listing them?

They're for a 3.0l estate which has working self-levelling(that I intend to keep), but I think some non S/L springs would be a good idea and a lot easier to find. These seem a little too good to be true though:  LINK

Yes, the fronts are the same as a saloon, and are easy to find. The estate rears seem to vary a lot in price

The job has been casual for the last 10 weeks, but it looks like it could be permanent if I want it. Which suggests I haven't oppsed up anything too badly :y

Well done :y

Re ATP, I use them for various parts, and have no complaints with either the parts or the prices ;)

Buy the fronts from them too and you'll save the postage...

With what your doing at the moment Nick,if you'd have oppsed anything up,we would have seen it on the news. :y.

I would put 2.5 td on the front as they will be slightly higher poundage due to td being heavier than 3.0L.

At €78 for all four springs, I shall be getting them. I'll be adding some new tailgate gas springs to the order, along with a heater matrix(as mine gets warm, but not particularly hot) for €16. That lot comes to £90 delivered, which is crazy.

Lemforder steering idler bush(which I don't need, and don't believe is the problem it's made out to be) is €16 :o which is much more like BMW prices.

Bargain Nick...if you need a steering idler I have a brand new Lemforder here which is your FOC when you are passing and my car is on driveway.

Thanks but I replaced mine some time ago, unnecessarily as it was the centre trackrod that was knackered. I was surprised at the time that the bush wasn't available separately, and that the whole idler was so expensive - BMW ones are so close in price it isn't worth buying just the bush and faffing about with the press.

Although it still beats aircraft prices; it was only after I fitted the Cherokee ignition switch that she told me it cost £600 :o :o

No, just that I found the price difference for a very similar part surprising. When I bought one for my 525 there was about £12 difference between an unbranded bush and a Lemforder arm. Which at less than £25 was the only sensible option.

I have a Lemforder arm standing by, bought some time ago thinking one of mine had gone. But since then I'm sure someone on here said that the Lem arms did not last long, or some such.  ???
