WTD: Oil Cooler plate o-rings/washers etc?
« on: 24 June 2019, 23:03:55 »

Before walking into the stealer and offering my soul and first born, has anyone got any of the seals n bits n bobs you need for re-sealing the oil cooler plate, surplus?

I should have some grey sealant, and sure I have a few washers kicking around, but can't find the 'right' parts box at present. For reference:

11076852 METAL COOLER O-RING (x4)
93165267 SEALANT  (x1)
90409175 O-RING BETWEEN COOLER PLATE AND COOLER RADIATOR (x2)
12992647 COOLER BRIDGE SEAL (x4)

Ta in advance  :y

I've done the job once before, so know 'roughly' from memory, but not exactly. I think they're badly named. They're all washers, as far as I'm concerned. I'd call an 'o-ring' rubber, and none of these are that. The 'cooler ring bridge seal' are doughty washers.

If those seals still available, cost you about £15 for the lot.

True, It's not horrific on the grand scheme of things (though some would argue extortionately priced compared with what you could pay for what are readily available universal parts used on almost all cars/other industries)

I just wanted to check as I like to keep money 'in the family' if I can give some sheckles to a fellow OOFer I will  :y

Ah, very kind sir! I'll see if I can get some dimensions!

I have one of those cheap n cheerful rubber o ring sets, but nothing in (what I assume are) crush washers, and doughty washers.  :)

I used Peugeot sump plug washers on Rae’s coolant bridge. They fitted like a glove, and he hasn’t complained yet  ;D

Now found my box of bits, got the metal (aluminium?) crush washers, check. Found some unlabelled rubber o-rings (so two are rubber, apologies to Raeturbo, I forgot two of the 10 are rubber) which may be the coolant ones, need to confirm that. Found a website selling them cheaper than Vx prices. Dowty washers I have heard tale (Fuse19?) that pattern washers have let him down in the past, so although dowty washers can be had for pennies each, dont want to repeat this job again any time soon... Sourced 2 of the 4, so may be main dealer (£3odd each, ouch)

think my grey sealant has gone hard, too, now.... bugger!  :D

As before, I used two citroen/peugeot sump plug washers on Rae's coolant bridge, which had rubber inserts, and fitted like a glove.

In a time where parts for these things are fast becoming obselete, we must improvise :y

This is very true. Thanks for the tip...

PS did you use GM sealant? I notice one motorfactor which usually only deals in genuine Vx stuff is selling Elring's version of. Going by the logic that elring made the rocker gaskets/are an OEM (I think) do we reckon teh Elring version is going to be plenty good enough/anyone had experience of using their grey goo?  :-\

I was prepared to change the HG etc on a mid nineties Mercedes using a similar logic :y

The EPC even lists it as a valid alternative  :y

Next one... Does anyone who has one of the dowty washers handy, fancy measuring it? I may have found a reasonably-priced source for quality alternatives, but as I don't have one to hand (without dismantling my engine  :D) the internal diameter should be 5/8 or 15.8mm, thickness of 2mm.

If anyone's up for a (almost) thankless task?  :y
