Kids in cave
« on: 03 July 2018, 20:33:49 »

I see they've found the kids trapped in the cave in Thailand, all seem safe and well  :y especially considering it took 10days to find them.Food/water etc is being taken in to them with the apparent choices of teaching them to scuba dive and get them out that way or leave them there[and keep pumping the flood waters out]until after the monsoon season[due to last until September :o]and walk them out.Hopefully whichever way they do it the outcome will be a happy one :y :y

I was amazed they found them alive and well. Its going to be tricky getting them out though. They must be very relieved to have made contact with the outside world though.

Caving? What possesses people?

I wonder how many will ever go back when/if they get out?

you'd think international rescue would have some gadget to get them out
world full of technology ,but they want to teach kids to scuba dive
after spending days worrying about if they will drown or not  :'(

Yes, and these kids apparently went there after football training, parking their bicycles up, and "just decided" to go down into the caves with their coach!! :o :o :o

How different cultures / peoples calculate risk eh?!! ::) ::) ;)

Apparently they are going to teach them how to dive. Teaching footballers how to dive, oh the irony. You would have thought they could have just used the sub. (I'll get my coat)

Can’t they drill down through the mountain to where they are. There was some great equipment on curse of oak island for that sort of venture or would it be too hard to get the gear up there perhaps?

Apparently the approach used by the divers to reach them means navigating a bend in the tunnel giving access to one person at a time and they're on about drilling this to widen it and make it easier/safer to get the kids out.

Good luck with that one  :-\

As a Diver myself, it is kind of doable to train a novice to a a safe and monitored dive within a few hours, otherwise your looking at weeks if not months of training and experience for a driver to become fully competent in a panic or emergency situation, then add that to Cave diving, Cold Fresh Water, Murky and claustrophobic and tight conditions.  Hmm, difficult one that.   :-\

Plus, it has been said, there is a section of the approach to the boys cave, which took professional divers 6 hours to travel, that is impassible with standard air tanks on your back.

The experts on site are working out if they can widen this section, which carries significant risk
