Parts are a lot more expensive over there. I'm not sure why they don't ship them from elsewhere? Maybe time, maybe import rules.

EDIT

I got stung on some brake shims for the Honda, dealer only part, £17 each at the dealers (needed 4). $3 each in the USA. I settled on £3.67 each and 2 week wait from Japan. Yes it was cheaper for me to order them from Honda Japan than Honda UK.

I agree, father in law needed rear pads for a Ducato based camper in Spain and had to stump up 100 euro's for them, circa 35 quid here :-X

Ha ha the great parts price discrepancy.

I put it down to two things.

First a lack of competition. Spain is like Britain was forty years ago. No places like Euro parts or even Halfords. Go to a parts place and they are the same prices.

Second is a practical consideration. Distances are much further between towns and villages but they still manage to have parts delivered to whatever garage calls for them. The Spanish islands like others in the Med, have the additional problem of water. That means everything costs a bit more than the mainland.

There is a further consideration. Need a VAT receipt or they don't know you, you pay full price.  Everyone else doesn't pay the VAT.

Just as a foot note! I see from the receipt that they charged me €207 for the kit (no brake drums either) and as Varche said I did not pay the 21% iva as I know them at the garage! :o  Cheers  :y

So about €90 labour, which sounds pretty fair for 1.5 hours :y

Another reason for high parts prices is I think to do with accounting.

Well done ( I think) not paying VAT.  Very curious feature of life in Spain. Discount for cash and known discrete customer . The government must know how big VAT dodging is.

When I was on the building in Liverpool years ago, hardly anyone bought VAT.  ::) Win, win. No VAT for the customer, no income tax for the builder.

The Spanish government need to get off their arse and start sorting the tax dodges, the country might not be so deeply in the brown stuff if it did  :y
