Title: Qualcast VTEC.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 11 May 2019, 15:22:19
Following the advice of YZ250, and one or two youtube video, my mower now revs like a 2 stroke GP bike from the seventies.... :y

I needed  to remove the plastic covers and petrol tank to get to the governor arm located in the carb linkage. Then it was simply a case of bending it with a pair of pliers.

I wonder if it will go BANG in the near future. ::)

No good selling mowers that are so power and torque restricted that they won't cut grass.

Brilliant, glad you've sorted it.  :y

A faster spinning blade cuts the grass better as well.  :y

It is actually 150 cc and not 123 cc as I had thought.

The specification says 2.2 KW/2.95 BHP at  2900 RPM.

I reckon she is now running at about 3500 RPM..... :y

The grass now seems to be cut rather than torn apart.

I got banned from the local Go-Kart track when I found I could reach behind me and open the throttle properly on the engine, so I pissed past all the restricted Karts!  ::)  ;D

Is your mower self propelled M'lud?  ???

If so you should be careful at your age!  :P  :)

I did that at the kart track at Trago Mills in Bovey Tracey and got a bollicking. They fit isolator's now so that they can kill the engine remotely. Spoilsports.  ::) ;D

Reading this, I wonder if I should do the same to mine, as although it does the job and never stalls, the actual cut could be better, no matter how much I sharpen the blade  :-\

When I say "I", I was thinking more of driving around Oxfordshire until I see a black estate, and dumping it there, with a post-it saying I want a GTi conversion.

The fifties was as dull as ditchwater. It was essentially the left over fag end from the war and there was still rationing in the early years of the decade.

The cars were dull. The clothes were dull. The entertainment was dull.

Well before my time I am glad to say. :)

It wasn't just photographed in black and white that was it's real colour.

How I agree with that OPti :y :y

Everything was in black & white, even people's attitudes and outlook on life.  I will always think that it was not until 1965 that 'colour' suddenly started to really show itself, with even my war parents suddenly coming to life and start accepting 'modern ways' .  Then 1967 happened......................and everything went into full colour  8) 8) ;)
