Title: Lakes Meet 09?
Post by: amigov6 on 04 September 2008, 21:42:17
Will there be one given we've been banished from Stalingrad?
Cumbria is my favourite neck of the woods so would like to think we can find another venue. ::)

Well somehow I don't think we'll be welcomed back ...  :)

Lakes 2009 sounds good .. especially if it can coincide with a school holiday of some description - half term or something - would make the long haul up more worthwhile if the stay could be longer ... if you get my drift .. :)

From what I gathe having a site owner with a poor attitude along the the Loo's backing up, I would certainly want to go else where if there was an option. :-/

As well as still owing her £8 (difference between the £20 we were told we owed & the £14 a night site fee) and 'stealing' an aftenoon's electric :-? , I don't think I'd be welcomed back there ...... not that I want to go back! ;D ;D

I went to the first one which Chopsdad put alot of effort into organizing & was a cracking meet, early days for many of us only marred by the Concentration campsite owner/dictator crazy megalomaniac. Despite us giving her another chance (all's fair in love & world domination) she failed to give us our own area(51) as promised & her screwball daughter made an impressive display of being cut from the same cloth, hence Burns Farm will not be revisited, which is a shame as it's a lovely venue for a meet & the scenery's breathtaking. I did'nt attend this years meet so only relaying posts but was there for the first one & it was top!!!!!!!! :y

I agree that the scenery is gorgeous but i think Newent is a far nicer site.
There are quite a few sites up there but I am sure Chopsdad will prevail once again :y

She left Chopsdad and I with no doubt we are not welcome anymore.

Sod her, useless dozy bint. Thats interbreeding for you.

Chopsdad has some ideas, and one he was on about doesn't necessarily have to be in the warmer summer months, possibly opening up opportunity for a 3rd big meet in a year  :-X

I think I'll be watching this with baited breath!!!

Could always make an East Anglia meet a big one if it's planned more thoroughly next time (no offence Tony, but we just seemed to pick a bad weekend for it!!)

The place we stayed at was superb and are more than happy for us to go again and take over a complete section of the site, including the underpass for shelter and hard standing :y :y :y

It's also not too bad for a large proportion of the members to get to, judging from the map

I would love to make it to a Lakes meet in 09, but only if the indians are friendly :D :D, as it is one of my most favourite places in the uk.  Just couldn't make it this year for a number of reasons. ;)

I have just returned from a week in the Lake District / Blackpool, re-aquainting myself with my love of the former.

Unless I run out of money (again!!) I would confirm my intention of going to the meet in 2009 to enjoy the Lakes again and, of course,at last meet up with as many members as possible! :D ;)

Thats one place I will never be returning to. Shame, as fantastic views, but run by a mother/daughter who are the result of what happens to the gene pool when too much interbreeding happens.

Cor blimey you lot are needy!  ;D

I have been speaking to a privately owned outward bound centre.  Proper beds, dorms that sleep 1 - 4, private hot showers, plenty of electric, bbq welcome, downstairs bar and meeting room if it's wet like last time and if booked in the school holidays/half term provides exclusive accommodation.

No need to bring all the camping kit, perhaps share lifts, sleep in a bed yet it's set in the most idyllic location 2m from Keswick.

Cars welcome and carpark/hardstanding.

I only have 2 things to sort out - how many cars/people can they take and how much.  It'll be more than a space in a field, but less than a B&B and we're all together - dry and warm and comfortable.

I'll speak with them again this week to firm up costs and dates and see how we get on.  If not the owner also owns a farm less than a mile from Burns Farm and may lend us a field......... ;)

This is a nice place, camping is on a field away from the caravans, there is a pub nearby for food, toilets are usually clean, the beach is literally 150 yards away and the sea is warm too.....   very highly reccomended, Whitehaven is a few miles away... ideal for families... oh! and reasonably flat too...

I've been with a group of males doing the coast to coast and with my family at a later date too...

Possibly a bitch to get to though - probably 50m-1hr beyond Keswick, as all shortcuts are small, slow roads (unsuitable for vans) - you either go Keswick way (North around lake district), Barrow (South) or via hardknot and wrynose passes (through the middle)

Agreed, awkward for vans.. ideal for just tents... the middle road is a great driving road...  :)

I've finally got round to a Lakes alternative venue.

Given the support shown for York I've put together a late season deal with this place http://www.activity-centre.com/

This is a bit more cost than usual but is a different concept entirely...

It has 137 beds available in dorm style rooms or 2,4,8 beds - yes bunk beds do feature! Separate showers  - newly refit and very clean.

£24 per person per night - on B&B basis (no room only option) inc all bedding, but not towels. Not sure about kids - forgot to ask  :-[

Large BBQ on site available - or they can cater for BBQ at £6/7 per head inc a sticky bun for a pudding. Bring your own plates and plastic forks to keep cost down.

Fully licensed bar and indoor meeting area (the bar) - but that means you can't bring your own booze I'm afraid - unless you sneak it in your room after dark.

Field available at the end of the short drive to park all of the cars and ok to work on here too.  Also limited tarmac hard standing area if required can be used.

Sorry no dogs.

So for £30 a night, you can sleep in a warm bed, feast at a communal BBQ, have a hot shower before waking up for a cooked breakfast and if it's cold or raining you can slouch inside too and the only things you need to bring are a change of clothes and some tools  :)

Dates available are based on Fri/Sat's of:

31 July - 2 Aug
7-9 Aug
16-16 Aug
4-6 Sept
11-13 Sept
2-4 Oct

I'm off to Austria now but please feel free to comment if you think this is worth looking at and I'll pick up the thread next week. :y

Agreed .. but the idea of a "dormitory" type place does not sit that well ... SWTSMBO is pretty much off the idea .. :(

True. That and the "sneaking booze in" would add a geography field trip aspect to it. Would prefer camping TBH. :-/

Sorry guys (and Guy) I've been away for a while but the Adventure Centre idea doesn't seem popular - no harm done, it was just one idea.

I'll contact some of the larger campsites in the area and see if they can accommodate a group as large as ours and are ok with, cars, dogs, booze, caravans and large bbq and I'll post up what's on offer.

First thing is to find a site, second is to choose a date and third it to see who can make it.

It's not over 'till the fat lady sings........... :y
