Hi all. Im a newbie
« on: 03 June 2014, 21:04:21 »

Just saying hi and to let you know im a newbie here but have had my Omega for 2 years. I very nearly scrapped it on Saturday as the MOT was up and I thought it would cost too much to get it through. After having a chat with Kwik Fit I took it in for them to look at the exhaust which was blowing with more holes than a tin whistle and was told it was replaceable within my budget so i got the Mot done and got it taxed. It has a 12 month reprieve.

Cheers,  it's the second reprieve for the car. Last year I was going to scrap it but the garage convinced me to have it serviced and Mot'd for £89!!! I thought it was a good deal at the time so told them to go ahead. They saw me coming!
They patched up the exhaust with gunk, mucked about with something in the engine so that when I drove it off the forecourt (after numerous attempts at starting it up!) and went to put petrol in, when I tried starting up again something went clunk, then bang, then it just died! Wouldn't start, nor even make a noise or anything! After trying to get the cowboys to come get me I had to pay for a recovery vehicle to take the car back. They had it over a week then called me in to show me the "problem". He said that something was rattling around and little bits of metal had got stuck to a sensor, the lump of metal he showed me that he had removed was a chunk of alloy!  I'm no expert in motors but I do know that alloys don't stick to magnets!  I ended up forking out just shy of £400 extra for the so called repairs!  Him and his other meathead staff were very intimidating and abusive when I questioned about the gunk on the exhaust!! Since getting it back again the stereo has never worked and I can't find any blown fuses either. For a short while after getting it back it used to cut out when I stopped at lights or as I pulled up to park, but that sorted itself out. The car had always started first time without problems before that bunch of cowboys got their hands on it. I didn't scrap it then because of how much I had been pushed into spending on repairs and mot.
This time Kwik fit did the mot and replaced the exhaust (middle to back), sorted out a puncture and replaced a wheel for less than £280!  There are a few advisories that I'm thinking of sorted out myself now and keeping the car for as long as I can. That's why I joined here so I could get advice on repairs  ;)

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

On my previous omega it was a sod to start and made an awful noise when turning over.....the starter motor nose part that goes into the bell housing actually broke off due to the starter motor bronze bush in that housing had badly worn out allowing the armature to rattle about every time i tried to start it...and broke a chunk off the housing and that got caught in there making one hell of a noise when engine was running....Took the starter motor out to inspect it to find it was knackered and noticed the chunk of alloy missing.....then took out the rubber bung at the bottom of the housing only to find a very well chewed piece of alloy housing...replaced with new motor and all was well after that ,, :y
