1995 omega remote fob
« on: 08 October 2018, 11:10:35 »

It's along shot, but can you still get the old style fobs, that are seperate to the key. I am looking for a spare one, as the wife keeps loosing hers. It is just 2 buttons. If you can does anyone know what the part number is? Itlooks similar to this.

Thanks for the help.

Certainly easy to pick up 2nd and. Reasonable robust, though the white markings can wear off.  I suspect still available new from dealers, as were used across many cars.

Alternatively, if you need a 2nd key, you can use the newer horseshoe type if its a RF style (borderline on a 1995 car), rather than IR type.

If its RF type, Both the remote and the transponder need programming.

The car was first registered 13 October 1995. Isn't there a black piece near the interior mirror if it is IR?

I rang up our local Vauxhall dealers, parts department who are not really helpfull when it comes to Omegas. I gave them the reg for the car, they came back with a part number 93183317.  Found one on Autovaux with that number, but they said it only works for Vectra and Frontera, and doesn't mention Omega? This is the one on their site :- https://www.autovaux.co.uk/eb-sender-radio-control. Vauxhall are asking £113 including Vat, plus £60 to code it.  If it is the old style IR one, can i just do the sync routine, key in press a button?  I have the Passcode and still one fob.

Thanks for all the help.

The Autovaux picture looks like the fobs I used to have. Trying phoning Autovaux to ask will it suit a '95 Omega?

S'not that simple, as Omega ones also vary depending on spec.

The same fobs (of same spec) were used across all Vauxhalls of the time.

The key is a normal type, that has the solid top, I can get one cut. On the battery part it says magamos O am 433.92 Mhz. I take it that it is radio and not IR? Does that give me more options, The Boy you mentioned the horseshoe type, how would that work?  I emailed Autovaux and they said the one I have linked to on here doesn't mention Omega, so I take it that even though the dealers, gave me that part number 93183317, there are different fobs with the same part number.

Sorry for so many questions.

Thanks

The key still has a transponder, which the car needs programming to.

Horseshoe type and your type are interchangeable (but you need the compatible fob bit still, Megamos in your case).  The fob and the transponder need programming.

Thank you for the replies. Sorry to sound stupid the Boy, I have looked online for Megamos fobs, and found the later 2 button fobs, that fit into the top of the key. They all have a different letter to mine after Megamos, such as a S or T etc. Mine has a O does the letter make any difference? If not and I purchased one of these, how would I have to get it programed to my car, would it be the same as going to Vauxhall with the passcode and would they program it? Also could I then get the key with the horseshoe part on cut anywhere?

The wife will be down in Darlington from 25th till 29th October, is there anyone near there that she could goto for programming of the fob, if I purchase one and she has the passcode?

I have also found this fob. https://www.ebay.ie/itm/311438010938. They say it is for omega, will this work?
Thank you for your patience.

Yes, you can use horseshoe type on any Omega that doesn't use IR remotes.

It would need programming via Tech2 or similar, and the carpass would be needed.  Key cloning is another option, but not always that reliable on rolling code remotes, needing constant resyncs.

Hotel21 may have facilities for reprogramming, if ever you get that way.

Thanks the boy, for the info.  If I decided to go the 2 button horeshoe type, what would I need? Would any button piece work, as long as it said MEGAMOS and AM 433.92MHZ, even if it had a different letter after the megamos to mine which is O? Would any blank type blade work that matched the profile of mine and what about the transponder chip any particular model needed?

Like this for example?

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-ASTRA-VECTRA-ZAFIRA-2-BUTTON-REMOTE-KEY-FOB-MEGAMOS-M-AM-433-92MHZ/123192128376?hash=item1caed2b378:g:zgIAAOSwhbJbI7NK

My car is first registered 13 October 1995 and a CD model, with the factory fitted equipment central locking and alarm wise.

Thank you all again for the help. Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I get everything needed and correct.

Any GM horseshoe key will do. Usually they come with a suitable transponder, but double check before buying.  Fob will need to be matching brand and frequency, so Megamos 433 in your case.

Programming wise, the Alarm has to be programmed to learn the fob, and the Immobiliser has to be programmed to learn the transponder.  If you have lost keys, might be worth wiping them from the systems.

An Omega can have up to 5 keys.

BTW, that one in the link is **WAY** too expensive for a 2nd hand unit.

If they really are that valuable, I'm a rich man, as I have bag fulls of the little bleeders.

Well tried different vauxhall dealer, they said the fob is no longer sold. They can get a key for £200+ programming  which is another £60. Tried Timpsons they said might be able to cut a key, then clone it for £60.  Tried a autolock smith up here, his reply was that vauxhall didn't use fobs, until 1998 so it is aftermarket. Don't seem helpfull or have knowledge up here in Scotland about Omegas. Opened the key today, and there looks like a small rectangle near the key end. I take it this is the responder chip?

So definately looking at newer type fob on key style. Is there anyone close to Darlington who could help, programming etc. The wife is down 26-28th October with the car in question.

Thanks
