Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio Wiring Diagram
« on: 29 June 2018, 10:04:35 »
Hi, has anyone got a wiring diagram for the Radio for a F/L model.  I have a Haynes manual, which covers P/F/L but it is also slightly out of focus in my copy and impossible to read (or it could be my aging eyesight!), any help gratefully received!

Omega General Help / climate control rod/link
« on: 24 June 2018, 23:00:14 »
Hi all, the Omega I bought back in March is now back on the road after a lot of new parts and a lot of fixing. I had thought my fixing phase had come to an end and this evening started looking at installing the new head unit I bought.

However,  when I had a proper look in the orifice for the head unit I saw a thin metal rod drooping down. I am assuming it is a link for the climate control system. When I went to find where the rod should locate to it came off in my hand and is now free. I have found by feel the location on the passenger side of the dash, but I'm having trouble finding its location on the drivers side. If anyone has an exploded diagram of the CC system I'd be very grateful. Likewise,  I'd like to hear from anyone who has tackled this problem before.

Thanks

I'm a bit stuck.  The gasket I was sent along with the filter is a slightly different shape and will not fit.  I tried to get a gasket from Auto-Vaux and paid extra for next day delivery, but the item they were showing in stock is not actually there.  My car is currently sat on axlestands waiting to be put back together and I go back to work on Monday.

Has anybody got a main sump gasket for the autobox?   :-[

Omega General Help / Fitted new top mount, now it's creaking!
« on: 09 May 2018, 20:13:14 »
So, I've decided to change the top mounts and bearings on the front struts.  I've only done one side so far and thought I'd got it all back together properly but when I took the car around the block to try it (and to test the back brakes I've just done), it was quickly apparent something wasn't right.  The strut is now creaking when I steer and is not turning smoothly when I steer.

Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong?  Thanks.

Omega General Help / Rear Brake calipers
« on: 07 May 2018, 19:47:48 »
So, I need a replacement caliper for the drivers side rear.  When my neigbour stripped down the caliper to overhaul it, he noticed that the caliper had spacer pieces between the two halves.

Now this has got me wondering, is it possible to modify a caliper for non vented discs by splitting it and adding the spacers from my V6 calipers?  Has anyone tried this before?

I need at least the Drivers side rear caliper (not checked the passenger side yet)

Needs to be for vented discs.

Failing that, I need at least one piston to repair the caliper(s)

Thanks.

Hi, anyone have a timing belt kit for a 2.6?  Engine number 08541523.

Failing that, can anyone direct me to a cheap supplier?

Thanks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / After Market Head units?
« on: 08 April 2018, 20:59:52 »
Hi all, I'm just curious as to what aftermarket head units you guys are using?  I'm not after a banging sound system, I just looking for something with Bluetooth for my phone and either USB or memory card compatability for my music collection.  I know some form of interface for the steering wheel controls and I'm presuming you lose the radio display from the trip computer.  I just want an upgrade to the CCR 2006 in my car as the facia is loose on it after the previous owner attempted to remove it while there were grub screws in the removal holes.

Does anyone know what size the grub screws are btw?

Thanks.

Hi,

As in the title I'm on the hunt for the following,

The front console ashtray for facelift models

A battery tray clamp and bolt.

The front level sensor for the xenon (the part that fits to the wishbone, doesn't matter if it's working or not, I  just need the fittings)

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm in desperate need for the high pressure power steering hoses for my 2.6 Omega.  Specifically the ones that run across the front of the car in front of the radiator.  The ones on mine have perforated due to corrosion and now leaking.  I've already obtained the low pressure pipe from an ebay seller, but the high pressure hoses are proving difficult to find.

Thanks.

Omega General Help / Garage recommendation
« on: 06 March 2018, 07:53:42 »
Hi all, one of the things I want to do before I do anything else with my Omega now I have it is to get the cambelt and water-pump done.  Messing with the timing etc isn't really something I want to tackle myself.  Can anyone recommend a garage or a handy forum member (to be paid of course) who are local to Atherton or Leigh?

Before I take the car anywhere I'll have to strip the front down to replace the pipes for the power steering.  They were absolutely rotten and the car decided to deposit its PAS fluid on the pavement as we got home from picking it up!

TIA.

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello!
« on: 25 February 2018, 20:08:39 »
Just wanted to say hello.  I had an Omega estate years ago and am now looking at getting and Omega again to pull a touring caravan.  I quite fancy the idea of getting back into a big old Vauxhall, it is a shame they don't make anything like them anymore!

While I hope to get as much information as I can from this site, I also hope I can also contribute when I can. :)

Omega General Help / Test Drove an Omega, advice please?
« on: 25 February 2018, 20:01:32 »
Hello all,

I used to have a 2.5v6 CD auto estate some 16 years ago.  Fast forward to 2018 and we are considering buying a touring caravan and I fancied something a little retro to tow it with and when I found a 2.6v6 CD auto saloon with a towbar fitted on Auto Trader I had to have a look.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201802213949456?radius=30&keywords=towing&advertising-location=at_cars&price-to=3000&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&postcode=m469qb&transmission=Automatic&sort=sponsored&page=1

The car drives very well.  The engine is very strong and should still have a lot of life in it at 108k.  The gearbox shifts and kicks down well and the different modes work ok.  Even the aircon blows fairly cold.  The car has "full" history, I say "full" because although it has plenty of stamps in the book, it has gone a couple of years between services on some occasion, though I suspect this is due to it only covering 3 to 4k a year in its later years.  Needless to say I'd be giving the engine and gearbox a full service if I bought it, along with fresh oil for the diff.  I'd even be changing the indicator stalk to add cruise to make towing easier.

There are a couple of issues I noted on the test drive though and would appreciate any input and advice you could offer.

The car pulls left, but the severity of this isn't affected by breaking.  I will most likely have the suspension overhauled and the tracking done, particularly as the shocks were a bit bouncy when I bounced the corners.  Is there something that would be top of the list to look at in remedying this?  The break discs at the front are well worn and will be getting replaced sooner rather than later if I buy it.

The steering feels a little "lumpy" (stiff, then less so, then stiff again) when turning from lock to lock and in general seems heavier than my daily drive, a Mondeo.  I cannot remember the steering of my last omega being heavy and certainly not lumpy.  Again, is there usual suspect to look at with the steering?

There was some mayonaise under the oil filler cap.  There doesn't seem to be excess pressure in the coolant system which is clean and there is no excess crankcase pressure.  Could the mayo be from condensation from shory journeys?  I know the V6 motor in a Merc CLK I used to have produced mayo which soon vanished after a long run on the motorway.

My wife sat in the back and said she could hear a noise that increased with speed.  I'm suspecting the diff or a wheel bearing.  I'm planning on replacing the diff oil anyway if I buy it.  Do the wheel bearings tend to go and are they a big job?

One of my main concerns was that both height adjustable seats would not work.  Pressing the switch would cause the motor to engage (You could feel it engage and hear the click) but then no movement from the seat and the motor would almost instantly disengage.  Is this a common fault and an easy fix?

The only other issue I found was the electric mirrors wouldn't motor right, I suspect the switch and cannot imagine it to be too difficult to fix.

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.  I quite fancy getting back into a big old Vauxhall, but don't want to buy a nail, thanks!
