Best place to sell car
« on: 27 April 2015, 07:50:32 »

Hi folks

Where is the best place to sell a car these days? I advertised my Zafira on autotrader last November/December and it didn't sell. I just put a years MOT on it so hopefully it would be easier this time.

Thanks

Gumtree. It's free and I got a couple of quick sales from there last year.  :y

Also Ebay classified.  Much cheaper than Autotrader and your car will probably get better exposure.  Don't bother with 'Buy It Now' or anything like that, as you'll get the idiots  ;) , just stick to a traditional classified ad.  :y

As above, cant beat an ebay classified ad. Most cases have managed to sell within 2 weeks then use the remaining time of the ad to sell something else. You still do get some time wasters but at least they can't bid and not turn up.

Trouble is zafiras are abundant so yours has to be special/cheap.

Autotrader is the best from my experiance, if not the cheapest. As said there are many Zafira's about, need to make yours stand out.  :y

Autotrader is £35 for a basic 2 week ad compared to £15 ebay classified (on first glance)

Yes Zafiras are more common than Star Silver Omegas and mine isnt anything special. Its a 1.8 petrol Elite in Ultra Blue with average miles. I think I might have to take a hit when selling  :-[

Advertised my car on gumtree last night and received three text messages this morning. Almost identical in wording, what's the last price I'd take and present condition and then a gmail address is provided to sent pictures to.

I probably won't be responding to these but is there anything I should be wary of when using gumtree?

Most people do. :( :(

The trick is to keep the loss to three figures and not four. :y

Would I be correct in thinking that you once owned a Zaffy?

I'm in the middle of putting my car on ebay classifieds. Just one question. I assume being in the classifieds, it's just like any other car advert. Potential buyer turns up, views the car and either walks away or buys the car. No come backs if they change their minds and go crying to ebay, right?

Thanks

That's a good question actually and I'd say the answer is yes as ebay in this instance are not involved in the sale, as they are with an auction or Buy It Now.  ;)

That said it still has to be 'as advertised' and 'fit for purpose' etc etc  :y

It's a private car sale. Once you sign the car over and get your wonga, having written 'sold as seen' on the receipt, they can go hang.

Let's face it, eBay haven't really got any way of making people pay or refund anyway. They can close your account or ask PayPal to step in but, if you deal in cash and stand your ground they are powerless..
......bit like my astra  ;D
