£17k for a car without mpg readout? Modern Vauxhalls really are cost cutting.
Not really... it is a base model ::)
There is one lower down from mine, The ES, that has no cruise control and no steering wheel controls, also no pockets in the seat backs.

Yours has cruise control. But no mpg details  ???

Wtf  ;D

Random!  ;D

Maybe because it's 1.4 and a base engine? sounds like it's not base spec.

So, what about the Vauxhall Astra Sport Tourer accessories? There are four main trim levels on offer comprising ES, Exclusiv, SRi and SE. All trims come with air con, daytime running lights and front electric windows. On the ES trim level standard equipment includes CD player/stereo radio with MP3 format and an aux-in socket, electrically adjustable/heated door mirrors and remote control central locking, 16-inch steel wheels with flush covers, height adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split rear seat and rake/reach adjustable steering wheel. Move up to the Exclusiv trim level and you get a chrome-bevelled steering wheel, ambient lighting in the central console and roof, cruise control and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. There are also additional storage bins in the front seat-backs. The SRi adds 17-inch alloys, lowered and uprated sports suspension (all models except the 1.4 litre), sports front seats, a multi-function computer, front-seat armrest, three-spoke leather steering wheel. SE is the flagship trim and includes 17-inch alloys, rain sensitive windscreen wipers, automatic lighting control with tunnel detection, an electro-chromatic anti-dazzle rear-view mirror and electric rear windows. FlexFold seat back release buttons are also standard on the SE. Optional extra equipment – i.e. kit that you have to pay extra for - includes sat-nav, dual-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors and a tyre pressure monitoring system. In 2012 Vauxhall added Tech Line, a trim aimed specifically at company car drivers. This is designed to appeal to those who want a Sport Tourer as their company car, and so has a low P11d price and lots of equipment to boot. It boasts sat nav, DAB radio, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control and a chrome-effect side window surround all as standard. So that concludes the fairly substantial list of Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer equi

My Astra has the very basic functions displayed on driver display. Digital speed and two trips on one menu, and oil service reset with imperial/metric options on the other.
Can a tech 2 program functions such as mpg, mileage remaining, etc. Are the electronics already in place?

Have you Please read the manual?

It can be done, requires an MDI and enabling using the SPS setup.

And Tunnie, its called Marketing.......e.g. creating a distinct variation in features across a model range......you know, a bit like Sky do with their channel packages  :y

Where can I buy an MDI and an SPS. Will eBay have them?  ;D

I take it the MDI is some sort of interface which will allow access to the appropriate settings ?

I want to know if my car is achieving 38 or 40 mpg, not 18 or 20.
Brim tank, reset trip, wait until it's nearly empty, take mileage, take fuel put in, do maths and get MPG. The trip computer is a guess at best (based on your last 20 miles IIRC).

As stated......try a 'brim test' if your Astra is poverty spec. :y

It will probably be more accurate than the optimistic trip computers in most cars. :y

..........having said that a 'brim test' showed only a 1% error when compared to the trip computer on my Omega.

In 2015 I assumed all cars came with such things.

I get that, just don't get why it has cruise and lots of other things, but not a basic feature?

Like Sky doing the 'Essential Package', but leaving out ITV'  ;D

It probably does, Mr Tunnie.

It's more likely that dear old Steve can't find his glasses to read the handbook properly. :D ;)

He is quite elderly you know. ::)
