Extra long spanners are really handy; get a 13 and 17 as well :y

OR,
if you have lots of odd spanners knocking about ,cut one end off, so it will slide into a tube ,making extra long spanner set
I did this, great for belt tensioners etc that are hard to get at or require leverage with one hand (while you slide the belt on etc with the other)
plus I'm too tight to buy long spanners  ;D

I paid £1 each for mine out of bargain buckets at shows. I agree with you on the odd spanners and sockets for modifying; tool boxes from garage sales or scrap cars are a good source

Here's my cambelt adjuster made from a 30mm socket with worn drive hole:

I bored the hole to take the torx socket, TIG welded on a short piece of steel strap for a handle and bent it in the vice to clear everything. Once I'd used it, I drilled a hole in the handle to tie it to the locking set. All because I bought the locking set used for £40 and it didn't have the spanner, and a new one would have been about £30. DIY cost me about 15 minutes.

And my rear hub extractor cobbled together on the car out Scrapbiniumtm

Nice  :y
I'm quite lucky in that i have a massive toy box tool "set"
and i do have specialist tools for some jobs
but quite happy to modify a tool to do something specific
because a tool that works well saves time ,and time is expensive

Not much pain to be experienced...     ...or on the crapper. :)
After that Nile Water incident in Egypt, I had to neck a box of poo glue in order to make the flight home.  I can assure you that after 3 days of nothing, that straining whilst yanking the bathroom door of its hinges bloody well hurt a lot!

Women giving birth had nothing on that monster.

Went out and collected all the pieces  of Mrs Builder's wing mirror off the road outside  :(
A bus hit it ,fortunately she was in the car at the time , wrote down the reg
the bus stopped round the corner and came back to give his details  :y
(plus it's all on my CCTV )
phoned the bus company and a manager will call me back tomorrow
not reported it to insurance YET
I assume they will pay for the mirror rather than going through insurance (less than £200 for the complete mirror assembly and z157 cover etc i would think)
sods law , got 3 astra G mirrors , No astra H ones  ::)

An ongoing saga I'm afraid! She[the step daughter]told me it was to go to the local Vx stealers so that's where it went only to be told a couple of days later that they didn't in fact have an account with the warranty company,so we dragged it back to her flat.Several phone calls to the warranty company themselves[getting passed from pillar to post]and they finally-this week-came up with a garage chain who do have an account with them,so tomorrow it's off to...…..Halfords Autocentre :o :o What could possibly go wrong :-X :-X I can see me finishing up having to read up on repair procedures for the 1.4 Ecotec engine. :'(

Aux belt tensioner pulley changed... Not quite a five minute job, but straightforward enough... 14" long spanner made light work of getting the bolt undone ;D

Still a bit of a rustle from one of the other pulleys but one is readily accessible, tother less so... Might be doable with the water pump out :-\ which makes it a summer job ::)

Refitted the battery to the Elite (which has been parked up since May 2017). Started first turn of the key and purred into life without any unusual noise  :y

Drove it out of it's resting place and had some help washing it.

Fitted new timing chain tensioner to the M5 - no more chain slap on cold mornings, glad I caught that one quickly!

Fresh oil and filter for Mrs SJC's Astra, such an easy job when there's no engine tray to navigate and the filter can be reached from above.

Omega - need to source a driver's door handle since the bezel round the lock barrel has broken up so I've used a bit of blu-tac to plug the gap and a will give her a quick wash so she doesn't feel neglected  ;)
