Bonnet switch bent?

Or if the alarm is triggering when driving it could very well be the power sounder (battery backed up alarm sounder) that lives under the driver's side of the plastic scuttle where the wipers live.

Place a layer of rubber in the bonnet lining recess (it's a small circle to allow hood switch room) so that the hood switch is continually in contact with this surface.
The switch doesn't have enough pre-load and is susceptible to breaking contact and so setting the alarm off.

I use an old bicycle tyre inner tube and it solved the problem for me.

The bracket gets bent when you lean over the engine working on it. Far easier to just bend it back.

May be the powersounder if that doesn't fix it, best removed as they self combust!

thanks all for your valuable information i had to disconnect the battery lastnight to prevent the neighbours forming a vigilante squad against me i will try your tips and let you know how i get on.(as long as the neighbours havent killed me first!!!)

Sounder battery?

Happened to mine a few weeks back...  The powersounder got a couple of small computer sort of Li ion batteries inside to keep the alarm sounding if someone disconnects the main battery,,,  Its under the front scuttle drivers side...  Take the wiper off and u can pull it up and get it out... When the batteries get weak  the sounder keeps goin off...

Happened about 4am to me. Woke me up and I'm thinking why doesnt that idiot turn his alarm off...  After 10 mins I look out the window and its my car makin all the noise...  Blipped the alarm, and it went off again 20 mins later... The batteries themselves are common but a pain to source cos of the specific pin spacings to the PCB, but u can get a new powersounder for about £60...

The general feeling on here is to scrap the power sounder.
