Title: Reversing sensors stopped working.
Post by: Migv6 le Frog Fan on 01 September 2019, 18:48:04
As above, don't even get the initial beep when put it in reverse. Where to start - do they have their own fuse near the rear somewhere ?

There's a guide somewhere that covers reversing sensors .....

Had a look and seems knackered speaker is the favourite. Might have a spare in the cave. Second possible option is no power to unit.
Get the multimeter out I suppose. Still don't know if theres a fuse for the power supply to it though.

Nige / Entwood is the guru on these  ;D You remove what looks like a fuse and something to do with counting beeps ...... I've  only had reverse/parking sensors since I had a 3 point star on my car  ::) ::)

A front door tweeter serves as a reliable replacement speaker :y

Counting the beeps only works if you can hear them...  ::)

As a basic system check, ignition to pos 2 engine off, pop it into reverse. Check the reversing lights work and gently Place a fingertip on each sensor in turn.

You should feel a 'buzz' from each sensor... No buzz, no worky :y

So, Ive diagnosed a fooked speaker, which isn't a surprise. Connected up a speaker I have spare from a Bluetooth kit for test purposes and the beeps returned louder than ever. Much louder. Then tried connecting a front door tweeter, but the beeps were then so quiet they were almost inaudible. Istr RobG saying a long time ago the tweeter needs a mod - resistor added or removed ?
Must try and find it.
Also found some serious rust in the spare wheel well while I was in the area. Dug it out, treated it with rust killer for the moment. Got three holes there now, so the welder has to come out soon.

Non bose tweeter...  ::)

Deal with the sunroof drains and boot lid seal whilst you're at it ;)

You mean I need a non Bose tweeter ? Didn't realise that Bose tweeters were different, but I suppose they must be, like the other speakers are.
Don't think the issue is sunroof drains or boot seal Its always been dry in there in the time Ive owned the car. I think its had water in there in the past which has got into the seams and started the rot, which once established, just keeps going.

Xactly.

Fair enough, worth checking for evidence of damage from below too :y

In that order ;)
