Is the face lift 3L[car first registered 1st March 2000]OBDI or OBDII compliant? Or is it some other system altogether?

Its not ODB2 so the generic ODB Readers wont work, your need something more VX/Opel specific such as the OPthing one were not suppose to to discuss, or you could try the Android ScanMyOpel App, both a Free and Paid for versions.

It's not for a code reader[I wouldn't know what to do with one of those]just a whimsical idea I had that as long as it passes the M.o.T. I might buy a GPS HUD of which some are listed as for use with OBDI some for OBDII and others doesn't state either just that they plug into the cigarette lighter socket.

Its neither.

Ignore crap your read on the Internet about OBDI and OBDII, as its all 'dangle berries' for non US destined cars.

European destined cars had to comply to EOBD from 2001 (petrol) or 2003 (diesel).

For a 3.0l, you need a system capable of reading the proprietry protocols used.
