Omega General Help / Changing auto box oil
« on: 07 March 2009, 19:49:49 »
Is this a job I can attempt on the drive ( not me personally my mechanic mate ) or is it best to send to the local garage. Is it just a case of draining then refilling , or are there any filters to change. Sorry for the questions but I really am no mechanic and have no idea whats involved . Many thanks as always

Take care

Do a paper test and report the codes mate. !
Hi IanB , thanks for the info , as I have said I am no mechanic, how do you do a paper test , do you mean plug into a garage computer fault finder?

Thanks

Dave

Omega General Help / Air bag light is on on my dash ( I think )
« on: 24 February 2009, 22:16:16 »
Hi , I have had a red light on for a while now , the local garage said it meant I needed a new Jig ( I think but maywell be wrong ) he said it was something inside the steering wheel that needed replacing , to do with setting off the air bag I assume. Anyone had this before , is there a "quick fix " as I am not sure I want to spend £200 od quid on a new one.  Is this something you can buy used from a breaking Mig ( see I am getting the hang of this now :). Any advice would be very welcome , Thanks as always in advance,

take care

Lazy Docker , Woodbridge , I used to have an aunt that lived in Woodbridge , as a kid we would go and have our summer holiday there , she lived right along the runway at RAF Benidioters , we saw some fantastic air shows for free I can tell you . Then our special treat was to walk to Iken to swim in the muddy water there !! Did you know they filmed an episode of Doctor Who in Iken , my Mum met Tom Baker , the then Dr Who there said he was very nice. Hope this is ok to post on here ?  Take care Dave

Loo Knee trust me if I have a go myself it will go pear shaped. I learnt a long long time ago that me and cars dont mix. I had an old Ecort mexico and decided I was going to have a go at changing the oil myself. Got Mum's washing up bowl under the car ( she was sooooooo pleased with me !!! ) undone the nut thing , drained the oil , removed Mums bowl , disgarded oil and washed around with some vim ( didn't work ) then poured my can of Casrtol GTX in , went to check level , thought bloody hell this is a big sump , poured rest of gallon can in , still nothing , then noticed a small , but rapidly increasing amount of fluid on the road , yep , I forgot to put the sump plug back in , so that was the last time I had anything to do with cars , and I have found since then that the " horses for courses " rule of thumb works very well for me . Now give me a van full of stuff to deliver to Russia , no problem , moving a 4 bedroom house , all normally done ( 3 of us ) in about 5 hours , emptying that is . But changing or fixing even the most simple jobs on cars , no thanks , I will as they say " gat a man in " who knows what hes doing. Take care

Dave
