Modern cars fall into a bit of a paradox... They're too complicated to be reliable and too expensive to be disposable.

Fixing Omega suspension properly easily far outweighed the negative effects of not doing so, and was actually an investment as it is a once in 80-120k miles job. Those that bought cheap Omegas without understanding it were largely buying them for the wrong reasons.

Weren't the 2.5 and 3.0 of certain year prone to failure of the back of the 246 gasket :-\

For the more dignified approach you can pick up a usable old Silver shadow for less than £10,000.
Useable implies more than once.  :D

Part of the job is building rapport with the passengers and also seeing that sprogs are suitably strapped in... It's easy enough to call the kids cheeky little monkeys without giving colour a second thought :-[ and whilst our announcements might now be Everyone/Everybody most of us call people Sir/Madam and the crew darling...

Absolutely every person I encounter gets treated the same unless the rapport suggests otherwise be that positive or negative... The really nice person will get treated much better than the hoighty toity arsehole regardless of how much money they spend.
Yeah, but if I was on one of you flights, I'd be nicer to the trolley dollies that I would to you ;D.

S'pose that makes me sexist.
If it's any consolation I would be nicer to them too ;D

Presumably a similar notion to a wet clutch, although the idea of soaking a rubber band, synthetic or otherwise, in engine oil does seem to be asking for premature failure... :-\

I had a look on my employer's lease portal and an xpower MG4 can be had for around £200pcm all in. I'm not sure there's a cheaper way to get from 0-60 in under 4 seconds  :o

My M240i  X-drive will hit 60 in well under 4 seconds and costs me £0 PCM. ::)

But yeah.....£200 PCM for such performance makes it very tempting. Presumably this low figure is linked to a 'high initial payment' on PCP, or similar. :)
That depreciation has to be paid for at some point. :-X

According to the latest survey, everyone gets treated badly  ;D
At least it's not discriminatory ;D

The few I MOTed looked okay but the interior was nasty cheap plastic, not sure if they have got better with the new ones.
.

I suppose if you're on a bit of a tight budget & your after a new/newish car they're perfect.
That's moronic.

If you're on a tight budget you don't buy a newish anything.

Personally, I would never buy an engine with rear mounted chains as that such a retarded design. Fortunately, I am unlikely to ever buy a JLR or VAG product, it's unlikely to be much of an issue >:D.

Don't forget BMW, they were also represented on the committee of window-lickers that decided the timing chain should be installed next to the driver's knees.
Not really on my list either as anything of interest is likely to be Omega aged  ;D

Loads of info on this on LR forums some love them & some hate them, " you pays your money & take your choice" and then pray luck is on your side..
Plenty on all the Jaguar forums as well, with all sorts of rash comments like guarantees it won't last 80k miles.  Mind you, my car is the V6 diesel, and I'm apparently guaranteed a snapped crank before 100k....    ....so I assumed it must have snapped about 60k ago, and I've not noticed ;D
That might explain why it's always broken ;D

I know Mercedes engines have their issues, but at least the parts that have the majority of the problems are accessible.

That rules you out of certain Merc and BMW engines also then  ;D
Probably. But as those are likely to be the newer cross brand offerings, they're unlikely to be fitted to anything of interest.

Have you tried genuine ones?

Did you read the question?  ::)
