Old owner got to see his Omega
« on: 05 September 2019, 09:13:46 »

I'm driving down in Europe and took a little "detour" to visit the guy I bought my Omega from two years ago in Germany.

He was happy to see his old car and that it was taken well care of. He had it for 13 years as the second owner. He is a big Opel fan and also owns a Omega 500EVO and an Insignia OPC that replaced the Omega I bought from him.

He got to take it for a spinn out on the roads, he was very happy behind the wheel of his old love.

That was a very kind gesture on your part and I'm sure the previous owner appreciated it :y

A great gesture, and a great photo :y

Thanks

We have stayed in contact since I bought it and he has been informed on stuff  I have done to it. Since he owned since 2003 and is running a local auto repair shop he knows what has been done to the car over the years. I felt really good to do business with him. Not all sellers that are like him.

We were invited to a German Wurst dinner with real beer and had a great time with him and his wife.

An update on my friendship with Klaus.

I mentioned that he has an EVO 500 but the radiator on it has cracked and he haven't been able to drive it for many years. Since the EVO's only were made in 321 units some special parts they have are almost impossible to find. One such item is the radiators, he has searched for a replacement since it cracked with no luck and he is sad that he can't take the EVO out on Autobahn for fun.

Here in Sweden we have a couple of EVO's and one of them is in show room condition. The owner that nice one show his car on the Swedish Opelgroup on Facebook sometimes. On one of those occasions I, just on chance, asked him if he know about any EVO radiators available. Imagine my surprise when he called me up and said that he had a used one for sale! This must be one of the rarest Omega parts ever!

The story is that he wanted a new radiator for his car and knew that they were impossible to find so he asked a radiator shop if they could fabricate one for him. Next surprise; he had one new in stock that some guy had ordered many years ago but never collected. So this guy of course bought it for his very nice EVO and could now sell the old one. What are the chances for that?

So I bought it for Klaus who is now waiting for me to come down to Germany with it. If it wasn't for Corona he would have had it now. We don't want to ship it for obvious reasons. But I do travel to Germany now and then and I will bring it to him as soon we can travel again.

He even had the original packaging for it.

It's a different beast, not as powerful since it had a normal aspirated 3.0L straight six. They had to make a minimum of 300 units to be able to race it in the German Saloon racing in the 90's (DTM). The actual number of produced cars are 321, some of them became saloon race cars but most were sold for the street. It had all the gadgets as the race cars with the moving rear wing that raised up from the trunk lid when the speed increased. See it as a special edition of the Omega 3000. Did they sell a Carlton 3000 in the UK?

Irmscher modified some of them with a 4.0L engine and some chassi tuning.

The 3.0 Carlton was indeed available in the UK, both in 12v and 24v.  It was badged as GSi.  The Estate version was badged as 'Diamond', but very few, less than 100 were manufactured.

The UK also received the Irmscher treatment, but only in the Senator, with engine number C40SE.  Hardly any were ordered, being only offered with manual transmission.

Great thread, the only UK Evo500 I know of is owned by a chap called Dave who also has an interest in Droop Snoot Firenzas and Chevettes.
He was in the Autobahnstormers club at the time, and still has the Evo.  Another guy I know used to race an ex-DTM race car, which has now returned to Germany and has been completely restored.
