One of my rear self levelling shocks is leaking. if I decide to replace them with ordinary gas shocks, do I need to replace the springs with a different type?

Omega General Help / Wishbone info.
« on: 16 October 2009, 11:16:17 »
Hello everybody,

A friend has offered me a pair of wishbones that he bought for his Omega years ago but never fitted. The thing is, He doesn't know what make they are but the drivers side has a sticker on it that says

29-WP-0568
OP-WP-0568
(5352007)

I dont want to fit crap wishbones if I can help it. Does any one know what make these are from the numbers?

 Cheers, Mick.

Omega General Help / Sudden loss of power
« on: 26 April 2009, 16:33:45 »
I wonder if anyone can help with this one? I was driving along nicely in my 97 3.0l Elite when suddenly the EML came on and the engine started rattling and the power dropped off dramatically.
After establishing that there was oil pressure I managed to coax it home and borrowed a code reader off a friend.
The only code thrown up was 94 cam sensor, I cleared the code, started the engine EML came back on again almost immediately.
I cleared the code again and swapped the cam sensor, same thing happened.
Further investigation with the code reading device (snap on) revealed number 2 lamda sensor readings varying wildly compared to number 1 although this doesn't mean much to me as I don't really know what I'm talking about  :(
Removal of plug leads on drivers side bank doesn't do much to the sound of the engine although it doesn't rattle as much.
Replacing plug leads on drivers side and removing just 2 plug leads on passenger side (can't get to rear one easily) and it will not run at all.
Removal of plugs from drivers side and firing the car up does not result in petrol fumes being ejected from cylinders which leads me to believe it is not fueling on this side? Although manifold does get hot on drivers side, perhaps it's running too weak on that side?
Could these be symptons of a blocked cat?
Anyone got any ideas please?  :-[

Omega General Help / Tensioner pointer confusion.
« on: 29 March 2009, 23:46:05 »
I have fitted a new belt and tensioner kit to my 3.0ltr v6 today, and I am confused as to what the final position of the tensioner pointer should be.
after initialy setting the pointer to align with the right hand side of the lug, then turning  the engine over 2 revolutions, and locking the crank at tdc. the pointer swings down anti clock wise and aligns with the scribe mark on the lug. is this correct? it is vague on the cambelt dvd as to where the final position should be. Haynes manual does not say either. skf say it should be between 2-4 mm beyond scribe mark after 10 rotations of the engine. the Geoff and Pete how to says both marks should be aligned after 2 rotations.
Anyone know for sure?

Omega General Help / Cylinder heads
« on: 28 February 2009, 12:37:47 »
Hi everyone, I am new to the site and wondered if anyone can tell me if the 3ltr and 2.5 heads are interchangeable, as I would like to fit the heads from a 97 2.5 onto a 97 3ltr. I understand the camshafts are different but are the heads and valves indentical?
I hope someone can help,
cheers
 Mick

General Car Chat / Fuel consumption
« on: 22 December 2010, 20:34:38 »
My 3.0 litre auto estate Omegas fuel consumption has gone from 22mpg to 17mpg over the last week or so :(
I hope its just because of the crappy driving conditions and nothing more serious. Has anyone else seen a dramatic drop in mpg because of the weather?
