Good bits.

Body work pretty good for age,  no real problems with tin worm,  2 scratches on rear nearside panel,  1 on bootlid,  and scrape on rear offside bumper (subject to insurance claim at present,  it's a minor car park thing,  and i was sat in the car at the time, so the old cow was not just going to walk away from it....  )

Currently has a sports type grille,  but will also be supplied with the original in a box...

mechanicals...

Good.
in the last couple of years,  all round new original GM shocks , (proper shortened for lowered chassis Mv6 OEM from AndyC) , new rear springs (ditto lowered chassis ones) ,  new front wishbones, drop links and roll bar bushes.
couple of months ago, all new brake pads.
2 new front tyres.
Exhaust about 10 months old
new plugs last oct/nov,  along with cam cover gaskets (and breathers cleaned etc)
converted to metal can oil filter last october...

it is About to get a new HBV , Crank sensor and Aux drive belt.   to make it driveable.....     and stop the very minor oil leak....  and an oil+filters  change

Interior
Full Black leather,  in reasonable nick, ditto carpets....  there have generally always been mats in the thing, so the carpet belies the mileage.

NCDC2013 (NOT CID), both lasers fully operational, 2 disc carts fully operational,  2009/10? ish original NAV disc.

Indifferent
O2 sensor location moved post pre-cat or whatever it is that mod is that stops EML continually triggering on post100k miggys.
power sounder removed....   TB style...

fitted with Towbar and twin electrics.

(and hell yes it works.....   )

bad.
needs position 2 O2 sensor passenger bank. EML on,  ONLY code stored is 0141 ,  P2 O2 sensor heater circuit open.

could use a WIM visit,  it tends to the left a bit. and squirms a bit under braking.
HID lenses really need sanding and polishing.
Aircon needs regas , and frankly, the compressor bearings are shot....

small recurring chip in windscreen,  been done by 2 different chip repair jobs over last 3 years...  keeps coming back , but never gets any bigger.

some stone chip paint damage on front.

and the rear end marks already mentioned.
boot floor catch for spare wheel compartment, buggered....

Will soon need at least one rear tyre...   (tread wear getting a bit thin,  ) and i usually do them in pairs....  you really should you know.....

brake pad wear sensors not replaced by muppets who last did my brakes.... so warning comes up, despite them only being 10 weeks old.

Mileage at about 156k now....

it's due another cambelt in the next 5k.

AFAIK ,  everything apart from aircon works....  (aside from repairs to be carried out before buyer collects...

If buyer wants the cam belt and o2 sensor and so on done,  i could perhaps arrange  to do it at the same time as the other bits,  but at your expense.....   if you ask and pay before i get the rest done. that is....  think currently planning  )

I repeat 11 months tax.....   so.....

As bonus bits.... buyer will also get.

1) FL elite Photochromatic rear view mirror, intended to fit to this, never got around to it....
2) 2 spare piles of bits that are/were variously workable NCDC2013 units. 1 or both may have satnav lasers working....  , one should also have CDC laser spare.
3)1 spare GID(or is it MID<  ??   the monochrome jobby for satnav ncdc2013 )
4)1 buggered, but possibly repairable CID,.....   no code.... but married to one of the similarly non functional but possibly repairable units mentioned above.

( i was going to drop all that lot of to TB for experimenting the next time i went thru Brackley,  however,  not been anywhere near the place since i came up with that idea....  )

original car pass, and car pass code for 1 spare GID/NCDC , no code for CID or second spares NCDC.

there are some pics in the gallery of her in her glory prior to marks at rear...   ,  I'll take some more current ones on friday when i get home.....

shall I open negotiations at £900?

that works out to be about £660 for the car and 240 for tax???

I will ebay the thing once the stuff has been fitted....   ,  but i thought i'd mooch it up here first, as i'd prefer it went to someone who'd appreciate it and care for it.  and you wont ask stupid questions about o2 sensors,

again ,  when i get home on Friday,  I will dig out the MOT and post exact date.....

V5 present,  big pile of old MOTs and some invoices.....   handbook and car pass .....  also present....

General Car Chat / time for a change
« on: 28 June 2013, 12:33:28 »
the Mv6 is in need of some TLC,  nothing earth shattering,  but i'm taking a long term view,  at 156k ,  it's not getting younger....   and perhaps it's time i let a DIY capable person take over it's care.....   and I could do with something newer, if only for the sake of those days whn i have to take millionaire clients to lunch  (yes, i have those days.....  )

so once again, the question of what next rears it's worn and weary head.

i've taken a bit of a fancy to one or other of the following.

Jag X type. probably  2.5 V6 estate , specifically for the 4wd really....  just about big enough to carry the gear,  bit short on rear leg room,  but then i don't sit in the back.
BMW 5 series touring....    big, can be toy laden,  and suitably posh, and still carry all the gear.
BMW X5  coz it's silly, and impressive.

Mostly i like the Jag at present,  some of them are really quite pretty, and i narrowly missed one this morning.....   that i'd have bought on the off-chance of it being good.....    got another one i'm eyeing up.....   but ..... would like to hear the old lags here make comment on the mechanicals....   i bought the useless parkers guide download..... they had nothing bad to say about it....  which seems unlikely....

opinions?

someone want to tell me what error code i should be looking up ?  (it's an astra ,  but past experience tells me the reading of the codes is the same,  just need to be looked up on the right engine / car code sheet.  )

damn thing will not start.....   was running fine yesterday.

General Discussion Area / Box junction penalty notice......
« on: 16 December 2012, 16:10:39 »
So,  in my xmas post the other day, i get a nice one from TFL ,   wanting to fine the owner of the vehicle irrespective of who was driving it...  or why it got stuck in a box junction......

is that legal???????

amounting prosecution of fines for offences in absentia of someone not guilty of committing said offence?????

the actual story....

I was actually driving,  i was merely somewhat taken aback by the clear notice on the fine that they considered the vehicle owner liable, irrespective of who drove...

now to my second issue....

in moving traffic,  with very reasonable expectation of clearing the junction,  (in my lane there was about 100 yds of empty road ahead of the 2 vehicles in front of me)  i entered the box junction,

half way across said box junction, i got stuck,    Vehicle 1 in front,   decided to change lanes after clearing the box,   vehicle 2 simply stopped....   still on the edge of the box.... with clear road in front of him,   leaving me sat on the box,   with nowhere to go....

there was no reason for either vehicle in front to pull the manoeuvres they did, at the time they did,  and block the road as a result....

this is even clear on the photo supplied by transport for london......

if the lane had had traffic in it on the far side of the junction,  and a reasonable likelihood of NOT clearing it,   i never would have entered the Box in the first place, despite the disruption to traffic flow that would have occurred behind me....

so, do i argue the point?   and if so,  what tack to take,  ??  or cough up and say opps you very much TFL

after recently partially depairing itself ,  it now seems to have gone tits up.

so replacement sought......

PM me with opening offers..... please don't be silly or i'll be forced to give in to the wife's idea of progress and go buy a new head unit and adaptor.....

satnav disk not needed.... am up to date...

General Car Chat / Talk to me about diseasel miggy estates
« on: 11 November 2012, 17:21:51 »
seen a few 2.2DTi variants on the bay this week,    amongst other things....    and have been pondering the idea of getting one to use "for work"   and keeping my Mv6 for "fun and giggles and family events"   thus reducing my mileage in  her,  and my fuel bills.....

(let me put it like this,  I've clocked up another 1.5k in the last 10 days , at not inconsiderable cost )

at what point does one worry about the miles on a Dti?   i'm comfortable with 150k on a v6,  but a 4 pot diseasel?

and do DTi elites have the self levelling suspension?

seems like the cam cover gaskets have blown,    oily smell when hot,   rough running at start up, caused EML to trigger tonight,.(so oil in plug wells at a guess....   ),

all kicked off on thursday after i arrived on site in harpenden (herts)   but i've ben on site for 3 days with no internet  other than 3G on the phone.

needs a full service anyway,   i've just not had time with house move and a lot of work on ...

I have to go to North Wales later in the week for a friends funeral on friday, and i'm working in Harpenden on Monday.   not ideal driving that far in current state . so if anyone of the mechanically able have the ability to help out (clearly in return for a fair days pay) i'd be , as usual, enormously grateful.

General Car Chat / some bugger beat me to it.....
« on: 22 October 2012, 20:27:19 »
there was an 02/52 (forget which) blue 3.2 elite estate at oxford car care for 995 with about 115k on it last week,   thought about seeing if it was still there at the end of the week when i get back from a week working away......

seems to have gone.... oh bugger.

General Car Chat / fitting aftermarket radar sensors
« on: 22 October 2012, 20:25:27 »
what goes on under the bumper on the estate facelift?  is it really as simple as using the supplied hole cutter on the thing?,  (in appropriate nice and level positions,  assuming there are any)

thinking about maybe seeing if i can fit the range meter in the space below the front of the G?ID (my CID died shortly after acquisition)

General Car Chat / MOT..... and did it pass ???
« on: 22 October 2012, 20:22:37 »
oh hell yes.....     sailed thru,   no advisories....

actually find that a little odd,  given it's wayward tendency to the left exhibited ever since suspension replacement last year....  and squirrelling a little under braking,    but , hey ho....       nice to have a scrap of paper that says it's legal.

:D

General Discussion Area / hello peeeps.... we has moved innit....
« on: 21 October 2012, 20:40:32 »
well, after much rather about , and a lot of hassle,  significant wads of folding stuff, and an immense amount of hardwork, we have ended up in a new residence,..

sunny(not) Berinsfield  ,

parking is an arse,  but when i get the garage sorted.... things will improve....   it's big enough to swallow my Mv6 estate whole.... and has a built in swimming pool,   which i think was supposed to be an inspection pit...

our first "estate" house in 12 years...   so learning to cope with a denser population base....  (in more ways than one) and still fighting to be able to park outside my own house.....

it's frankly a dump, as locations go,  but the house is okay, with some potential for being quite nice.....

and now we've got internet ,  i'm back......

did i miss much?

bunch of self abusing numpties have cancelled my daughters ( and therefore my...  on multi car ) policy due to a direct debit cock up,  partly on her part, but also their part....    i've argued with them till blue in face and provided written evidence from bank that they did it wrong,  and they basically told us tough titty....   we're never wrong,  and that's that.....   financial services authority and insurance ombudsman here i bloody come....

meanwhile have reinsured my mv6 with hastings direct for £355 for the year fully comp.....

but getting her sorted.....     out of the question....    and   this may cost her her job.....    lovely....

just this once i'd like to tell the swear filter where to get off,   the stream of invectives trying to get out of my head is long, and very vitriolic....

no point fixing the astra now....  except to sell......     but of course,   new rules mean have to sorn it immediately.

if you have kids,   buy them a flipping pony.

exploded diagrams of just about everything.....  not a lot of explanation, but often little needed.....  takes a bit of hunting to work through to the right things....  but worth it !

General Car Chat / rather Astra !!!! ARGHHHHHH
« on: 29 June 2012, 11:30:27 »
Okay,  we have a ghost in the machine on our daughter's Mk4 astra ......

clearly i'm going to need to beer token persuade someone with a tech2 to come and look at it,.....

it started cutting out on my daughter while running,    so needed attention,  we read codes when she had to be recovered by green flag......

,   and initially it said EGR and absolute barometric pressure in manifold...   then in the garage, it came up with throttle position sensor fault....

EGR,  changed that,    still iffy, but different codes....

then MAF... changed......   code changed again.....

then Cam sensor....   changed....   ran okay for 10 minutes,   then hiccuped and EM light came back on,  and   code changed again.....

this is getting bloody stupid....

HELP????

45
Omega Electrical and Audio Help / whooops, oh woe is me....
« on: 26 June 2012, 18:34:03 »
So......

some time ago, I got a CID and NCDC2013 pair.....   originally my late birthday treat to myself ,  after running all over with a DOA CID first....  before giving up and getting a full set....

sad it is to report them deceased.....    possibly terminally.....

bugger........

it's a slightly long and involved story,...

basically the CID kept cutting out and just going black,......    well, more off than black...    not black as in a screen all showing video black, but a non functional screen....       a good thump on the dash board top, just behind and above it would 4 times out of ten bring it back,  (it started as 9 times out of ten, and got worse)

so.....  having previously spliced the loom for it,  i re-did the splices,  nicely soldered and heatshrinked.....

then ,  cleaned up the contacts in the smaller black multi-pin connector.....

then, to be sure.....     and here's where i might have goofed....    dismantled the CID and resoldered all the pins on the multi pin connectors....  (i am pretty good though,   regularly doing much denser board work , replacing soldered opamps where there's no room to cut the legs off, and so on..... )

however,   i had a bit of an accident (cat interrupts play kind of accident)  and caught one of the capacitors just by the wound component on the outer board with the back of the iron element...   while desoldering the sprung switch contacts to get the board out....

okay , no biggie,   replaced it with a similar component from my stock parts bin  (same capacitance , same basic type,  but twice the voltage rating)

all reassembled....    and put back in the car....

to my chagrin,  it then spectacularly fails to work at all.....   no amount of thumps get it going again either.....

break.......

worse still.....

now the NCDC is throwing a fit as well.....     radio only ,  no functional control from the front panel at all,  and stuck on heart FM> ARGHHHHHH

i guess it's possible i may have shorted out a wire while re-doing the splice....   frying whatever is sending video to the CID....    (radio should have been off.... but got switched on by accident as i leant across the seats to retrieve and errant screw that had fallen in to the foot well)

since his nibs is/was out of the country ,  i decided i needed a quick fix,  so transferred the Cd changer and front facia of the NCDC unit across to my old one (with  a knackered front and changer)   and reinstalled my old monochrome screen.....       and bingo it all works,.....   (yes vertical boards swapped and stuff,  )

given that i never got a pairing code with the NCDC and CID pair,   i guess they're paperweights....  but i'll give them to TB to experiment with.....        thankfully,  the units now fitted are the car's original ones,  for which i definitely DO have the codes,   so, if i one day get a replacement CID....    i'll be able to pair it up ....

frankly it's more likely i'll get an entire replacement Miggy at this rate,.....   Twiglet's is looking very nice.....    'cept i just spent my cash reserves on a bunch of replacement microphones after being stiffed by our insurers on damages to studio in a flood in january/february

i'm starting to think i may not be destined to have my ideal Omega ........  :(
