What size should my battery should be. 2ltr petrol esate t reg

If talking VX genuine parts, the 2 litre and 2.2's are listed as part 93176576 and a 55 amp/hr at £25 and change trade club, £36 and change retail.
OE 70 amp/hr is part 9201470 at £60 and change TC, £86 odds retail....
The 3 litre 72 amp/hr is part 93176583 at £39 TC, ££56 retail.
I would be going for the last one, if you are looking for a chunky winter option....

strange that the second one is so much more. why would anyone go for that vs the third one?

Its listed as OE rather than aftermarket so I suppose thats why the difference.....

I went to a local battery man who I've dealt with for years and he listed a 'police spec' battery which is 85 or 90 Amp hour! Needless to say that's the one I went for, mind you it needed some vaseline to get it into position ;D It was a Varta guaranteed for 2 years for £85, ouch!

85 amp/hr VX one is £45 on trade club, £65 retail, both plus VAT.....

Plus Vx batteries have a 3 year warranty.

I've got a bit of a beef with these 'batteries, tyres & exhausts places' >:(
....ever noticed how all the the batteries they sell are just about always underspecced for the size of car/engine!?! "YES sir, I know full bloody well that it will start the car fine"
Problem is, while it will probably be fine for 95% of the time, after about 3 years (usually earlier), it will fail. Normally just outside of it's warranty period, forcing you to purchase another. Funny eh :-X
Bottom line, buy genuine, be prepared to spend a little extra and it will last twice as long :y (no i'm not on commission ;) )
....and the battery listed in the GM green book is incorrect for the 2.2DTi, I too would go for the 72Ahr

Mine decided not to play last Friday just as we were getting in the car to go to a wedding. Bought a new Bosch battery on Saturday because I couldn't find the receipt so guessed it would have been out of the guarantee period. Result last night though, found the receipt and it was only 2 1/2 years old so back to the shop tomorrow to haggle for a refund. :y

Dead right! We've only done that a couple of times, the last time for a 97 Astra diesel. Battery failed twice, I think they got sick of us so sent us down the road to get (correct!) battery from vauxhall dealership and they footed the bill.
The tell tale is that they are just physically too small. Steve, I would be pushing for a money back or do what we did and insist in is the incorrect item. "Computer says" and all that, tell em it is B/S but try and get a genuine one. The omega has quite a number of electrical systems and a crap battery just won't cut it. It's false economy.

The size was fine for the job so no major issues there. The Vauxhall one went at three years as well so not much better anyway and it was a lower capacity unit.
Batteries are like lightbulbs and just not made the same as they used to be in fact our 05 plate Focus is on its second battery and alternator.

A friend of mine had his battery and alternator fail on his old shape 2.0 focus ghia, '54 reg I think :-?
I've heard similar rumours elswhere, something fishy going on me thinks >:(
Good to know the omega battery is holding up steve, as a rough rule of thumb, i'd always insist on a battery of similar physical size. Makes you wonder though.

so TC, stands for Trade Club right? how does one make use of said club?!
I've just been quoted £50 +vat (£58.75) by Vauxhall/Lookers in Birmingham for the recommended 65Ah one. (CCA of 540)
to suit my 2.5 v6, but i am thinking a higher spec one wouldn't hurt!
As regards prices, Lookers said the 'Go' batteries are made by Exide but the OE (red/white badged) ones are made and shipped from germany so that's why they cost loads more!

Quickest way to get a trade card is to join Autobahnstormers
£20 for a year, you normally get the card within about 3 days!
Some people manage to blag free 'proper' membership from a dealer.
I am about to replace mine, doesnt seem so good now its going colder.
I will be going the bigger is better route :y

Batteries are like lightbulbs and just not made the same as they used to be in fact our 05 plate Focus is on its second battery and alternator.
Probably some environmental nonsense that dictates that we can't put as much lead in them, or something. So, we make them slightly more environmentally friendly and throw away 3 times as many of them ::)
I remember my 1981 Morris Ital which I finally got rid of in about 1993 was still on its' original battery (had been in the family since new and i know it was never changed). My alternator died at one point and I drove around for a week with no charge to the battery. It held up fine.

Gel lead acid batteries have been around for ages in other applications such as aircraft, where spillages are not good. They are widely used as backup batteries in UPSs and burglar alarms.
Probably better suited to standby use than in a car, TBH, but they can be made to do the job. They are more expensive to make then a liquid lead acid battery, and not made in the same volumes at that sort of rating, hence more expensive to buy. They are also not as robust as liquid lead acid batteries but can be made smaller and ususally lighter for the same CCA, although AH rating will normally be less.

Agreed and I would add that they have quite specific charging requirements

If you open a post as a 'quote' then highlight the entire post and use cntrl c or cntrl insert to copy to pc clip board.
Use cntrl v or shift insert to copy from clipboard onto new post.
Edit reultant post to what you want it to read then tab out.
Repeat as required.
If quoting from multiple users, I normally open a second window to copy/paste from thread lsited there.
Or use the quote button in the thread options once the thread is open so it only says 'quote' instead of 'Quote from hotel21 on xzxzxz'.......
Probable someone else has an alternative though!! ;D
