Omega General Help / Re: Faulty Elite heated seat?
« on: 17 February 2011, 14:37:29 »
Mine failed too. Had this on my pre-facelft CDX. The seat base got very hot for a minute then nothing. As the seats were cloth I was able to strip down the base and replace the heater pad. The heater pad had an obvious burn mark were the element had shorted out

However, I think the construction of the leather seats is different with the heater pad being sewn into the leather. Much more difficult?

Omega General Help / Re: Fitting headlamp washers
« on: 17 February 2011, 14:29:25 »
When I retro-fitted the headlamp wash system to my pre-facelift miggie I had to change the water tank.

The original tank was about half the size of the one needed for headlamp wash. It also had the two take offs for winscreen and headlamp pumps.

Omega General Help / Re: spares web site

Looks good in theory but I have tried to purchase five items from this site over the past three months only to find they have been sold many months earlier.

They are not good at updating their stock

Omega General Help / Re: Oil change Interval?
« on: 05 February 2011, 22:57:41 »
Every six months on my two miggies. Use genuine filters and Vx semi-synthetic 10-40.(Trade Card)

Trouble is I do very little miles at the moment so neither is doing more than 200 - 300 miles in the six months!!

Very aware that lack of use is probably worse than high annual miles.

You want to see the faces at my MOT station when they find that the mileage has hardly increased year on year !!

Omega General Help / Re: Booked in for alignment and camber
« on: 06 December 2010, 14:37:27 »
Just done (partially) mine on one of my omega's, 1998 CDX. What a job!!!

I guess you are taking about the front steering tie rods and the read tie rods.

Fronts seized solid at first but got them off the car without much trouble and attacked them with penetrating oil. oil bath, heat from blow torch, big vice, bigger vice, spanners and three foot scafolding tube as an extension.

They finally gave up and are now repainted, well greased and back on car. I also replaced the adjuters locking bolts/nuts with stainless steel replacements.

The rears are more of a problem. I noticed that somone has  been here before but not since I have owned the car (10 years). Both adjusting bolts butchered.

Never mind. Same approach as before, off the car and apply heat and force. One finally gave in but the other is still off the car!!!!

I can't get it to move. Eventually broke (dramatic) a 4" vice with the force applied. I even welded on metal bars to get more purchase. Nothing moved. I am sulking now and have given up untill I get a bigger vice and a large pipe wrench.

Guess what my Xmas presents are going to be?

Can definetely say that I have never had such seized components on all the cars I have owned. Nightmare.

I have another Omega to do but that's on hold.

Omega General Help / Re: Heated seat failure - omega facelift
« on: 05 December 2010, 17:22:07 »
Just a note of caution. With the air bag disconnected don't turn the ignition on.

If you do it will result in the air bag warning light coming on a staying permanently on.

You will need Tech 2 or similar to reset it. I speak from experience!!

Hi, the batteries in mine are two AA size batteries with each battery containing 3 X 1.2V Ni cads soldered together then shrink wrapped in plastic. They are not the button type that you find in the latter models.

Hi, the one I took off my 1999 2.5CDX (T reg and mini face-lift) last week had the number 90508618 PJ.

I know that these are the more expensive ones from Vauxhall and I can't find the correct Ni-Cad replacement batteries.

Hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Re: Central locking prob
« on: 15 October 2010, 10:55:24 »
If the clean and lube does not cure the fault then it is probably the micro-switch in the solenoid which is causing problems.
If you are handy with a soldering iron there is a great "how to guide" which is not really difficult to do. The micro-switches are available from RS electronics.
I have repaired three solenoids so far and all have lasted.

Best wishes.

Omega General Help / Re: external temp sensor
« on: 15 October 2010, 10:48:49 »
Hi. On my mini facelift the temp sensor is fitted to the rear of the front bumper on the passenger side just about where the horns are located. The sensor probe itself pokes through a round hole in the bumper.
Hope this helps.

Omega General Help / Re: Rain Water Ingress!!!!!!!!!
« on: 26 August 2010, 16:45:23 »
Exactly the same happened to me with the puddle on the rear carpet.

Eventually traced to that pollen filter housing everyone talks about. The drain hole clogs up with leaves etc, the water builds up and eventually flows though the pollen filter into the car behind the glovebox and down onto the front passenger carpet.

It did not show on the front carpet for some strange reason. I think it was being soaked up by the sound proofing underneath the carpet but it travelled from the front to the back carpet. The car was parked on a flat surface!! It took ages to dry out the carpet and the sound proofing.

I am really wary about this happening again. If I hear about any predicted heavy rainfalls I go out and clean the muck out of the pollen filter housing using a hosepipe. Did it last Tuesday and both (have 2 omegas) had blockages.  A very poor design!!

Result, no water soaked carpets.

Omega General Help / Re: handbrake shoes
« on: 24 August 2010, 11:06:03 »
After I rebuilt my handbrake assembly I took a photo of each side adjuster, printed them off and then pasted into my Haynes manual with directions on which way to turn for release and lock.
Its much easier now without the guess work.

Omega General Help / Re: Xenon headlamp levelling controller unit

On my pre-facelift the cotrol box is under the off-side (drivers) front wheel arch. Remove the plastic shield and the box is towards the front.

Omega General Help / Re: Rear demisters
« on: 27 January 2009, 20:35:20 »
I too have added rear demisters to my 99 CDX. I can confirm that the wiring is not there so I had to run my own. There was also no switch space in the centre consul switch bank so purchased a small rocker switch and LED from Maplins which I placed below the traction control switch to the left of the auto shiflt .
