Hello people :)

 Im sure some of you will recognise the name off VxON, so hello to those that know me, and also hello to those that dont :)

 As of Friday i joined your clan...yes thats right, i am now the owner of an Omega...i still have the Calibra but its for sale, will sadden me deeply to see it go, but i love the Omega to bits.

 Its a 2000 X plate 2.2 DTi CD 4dr manual, in Nocturno Blue...i previous owner, 64k, with FSH...need's a few bits on the bodywork tidying but nowt massive i shouldnt wonder...pics will be following shortly.

 Mods started already...ive whipped the '2.2 DTi' badges off the back and the 'CD' badges off both front doors  ;)

 I'm totally new to the Omega so will be asking all bloody sorts likely ;)

So, i'll be about a bit :)

You get very little trouble with the 2.2 diesel, pretty easy to chip to.....

 Only thing that daunted me really was the timing chain issue...wasn't there some problem with a lubrication valve or something?, or was that the 2.2 Petrol's?

 Had been looking at chips etc for a while as i was looking to buy a 2.2 DTi Vec C...and had seen one that allegedly boosted power to about 155bhp and 300lbft torque...there are soo many about now-a-days, not sure who would be the best...mind you, i want to get the service and bodywork sorted before i start expenditure such as that.

 What engine is in these Meg's...Y22DTH?

The problems relating to the timing chain lubrication occurred on the petrol engines and that engine was not used in the Omega.

As Mark says, from what I have heard the 2.2Dti is a very good and reliable lump (just remember 4-5k oil and filter changes, ignore Vx service advice!)

Be careful on raising the power much beyond another 30 bhp/40lb/ft torque as the life of the engine will be somewhat curtailed the higher the boost goes.

Oh, and welcome mate. I suspect you will find the Omega rather sedate in comparison though. :)

Welcome MadOnVaux. Another familiar name to the site. Nice to have you here with us. Make yourself at home mate. Not a lot I can tell you about the 2.2, but I do have the 2.5TD and have had 3 of them now.

You'll easily spot the Omega owners. They disappear off the road every few hours to fill up with fuel, whereas I only go there every few months for a pint or two of diesel.

That should start them off!!! ;D

 erm, it was...the 2.2 16v petrol replaced the 2.0 16v.

I think you are correct about the timing chain issue - the same engine was used in the Saab 9-3 and I have seen a few on ebay with bent valves due to timing chain issue's.

V6 problems solved : Worked at the V6 Engine plant for 13 years on durability testing and warranty issues, this job included many trips to Russelsheim, Trollhattan, Michigan, Atlanta,keiserslaughtern.

The 2.2 used in Omega wasn't the same as 2.2 used in other Vauxhalls. The Omega 2.2 is a belt, not chain...

The 2.2 is a stroked X20XEV and the chain drive lump is a new lump
