New insignia

Just seen the ad for the new insignia, top of the range grand elite nav or something. 30 grand. Seems a lot to pay for a mid range saloon.

I know. But prices were a lot different back then, and the omega was a very classy executive car in it's day. I dare say the insignia is a very nice car, but I'd still baulk £30K.
Mind you, give it a few months of slow sales and you'll probably get a big discount for buying it privately. Fleet managers probably won't touch them at that price either.

Its competition is the Mundano, and I suspect the Titanium X is similar money...

You could be right. I suppose I might be getting out of touch with prices, but it's still a lot of cash for a Vauxhall......or a Ford.

Also, I think with these type/size of car, there's significant discount to be had. So probably looking more like £25-27k on the road I would guess.

Still more than I would pay for that type of car.

A Focus/Astra is virtually £20k start, rising to £25k+ for posher ones.  Fifi/Corsa is £12k+ start...

As we go into recession, I think there really will be deals to be had, as the dealers have to pre-reg more and more.

I know what people on here think of Renault, but we got the wife's captur for £12500 with 7 miles on it as a pre reg. List price is £17500, so that's a cracking deal for a new car.

It's fair to say that when it comes to French cars, I hold "views" but running them new, under warranty and then giving them back before the warranty runs out is a sound choice imho

My pre registered Altea XL was similar, £16,500 new list, bought for £12,300 with ten miles on it...

It's an effective way to buy a new car for a reasonable price :y

Yes. As long as you build in the assumption that you finance it in another way. Iirc, a lot of cars mpanies screw you on the interest rate on pre-reg cars.

You can screw them back... Make sure the finance term is no more than twice the factory warranty, put 65,000 or so miles on it each year, then hand it back once you have made the 50% payment... Job jobbed... My Altea was valued at £2,500 when it went back at 2 years old :D

Interesting! I had no idea you could do this. Is this on HPI? And is it built on to all agreements?
