Omega General Help / Rear bushes changed today
« on: 20 December 2011, 22:14:36 »
Been changing the rear bushes today to try and cure wandering..

This is the drivers side bush, notice solid rubber in the bush is aligned with the arm.

The bush has come away from the metal sleeve.

Passengers side bush, again the solid part of the bush is aligned with the arm

Bit of a mess but there out. The other bush has also become separated from the metal sleeve.

And has it made any difference ? To be honest I'm not 100% sure it has, I still get slight movement at the back when going over ruts and grooves in the road. But I have also recently changed the front wishbones and as yet haven't had the geo done. I've only driven it a for about 20miles just to check it out and probably won't drive it much till I get it checked out. It is better than before but probably I was expecting perfection..

Another question which way should the bushes be aligned, as seen in the pics they are about 45deg out from the way mentioned in the guide. So who's correct ?

Sounds like rear donuts to me.

Can these be checked visually or it it just a case of changing them..

Anyone like a job changing them for me ?

There doesn't appear to be any feeling of wandering through the steering wheel.

I have recently replaced the rear tyres but the front are getting quite low so I might try swapping them round.

Tyre pressures are 32psi all round.

Yes, I do need to get the geometry done. A trip to WIM will be booked soon.

Wishbone bolts were tightened with suspension compressed.

My Omega over the last few months has got progressively worse steering in a straight line and tramling.. I have just changed the front wishbones, but i cant make up my mind if its the rear of the car thats the problem. The handling just feels a bit weird.

Do worn rear subframe bushes show any symptoms, and are problems with them easy to spot.

The track-rod ends appeared ok and I couldn't find any slack in the idler arm whilst I was changing the wishbones. But I now wish i did the drop links as they are noisy now..

Success!! It was the relay behind the glove box....the one Masterfit knew nothing about!!!

Well done.. You know who to ask in future and its definitely not Masterfit...

done....

Yanked the relay out....cured problem of lights staying on...however looks like this relay managed the indicators as well!! Not left or right turn....apart from the obvious....and last suggestions? Yes pressed hazard switch at least 40 times!

Desperate...!

If it does that then they've changed it since i had a problem with mine, you can always remove the cover off the relay and you'll probably find the spring metal that that hold the contacts in place has fractured, you might be able to do a temporary repair.

If you can get your hand up behind the glove box just operate the central locking whilst feeling for the relay, you should hear and feel it working..

I think you'll find its the relay thats flashes the indicators when you lock the car, The flexible strip inside the relay fails and shorts out the contacts. The relay hidden up behind the glove box, you can pull the relay out, it just wont flash the indicators when locking but the turning indicators will still work.

I'm sure its been on here before, i had the same problem on a previous omega..

Cheers Dave DND, think I'll buy one of those now.  Already have the correct RCA to 3.5mm cable.

That setup sounds ideal Weds, could I just wire the +12V to a ciggy lighter?

Thats all I've done, the cables a bit tight in there but I've just spliced it in.

Has someone installed DND's modulator and posted a guide for it?  I've never wired anything directly to the car, I'd also like ideas of where to neatly install the modulator.  I have a NCDC 2015 if that helps.

Mine was just plugged into the rear lighter socket and left sat on the rear floor for quite a time till I got the frequency about right, now its in the arm rest slid down beside the handbrake lever and wired into the lighter socket. My ipod now lives in the small recess underneath the armrest where the rubber joke cup holder was.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Fuse keeps blowing !!!
« on: 03 July 2011, 14:30:05 »
Mine was the heated seat wiring as it goes above one of the seat motors, not very easy to see (seat has to come out)  it was chafed by the seat frame, there was a plastic rubbing strip stuck on the seat frame but it was stuck on the wrong side..

You can disconnect the seat heating from the loom down by the seat adjustment switches as a temporary measure.. As part of the fault finding I installed separate fuses in that area for the seat heating feed..

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Traffic master question
« on: 22 May 2011, 20:50:25 »
Elite Pete is selling a couple of traffic master units in the for sale section here

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1305666228

Would these just plug in into a 2013 unit without mods

Elite Pete says they come from a ccr2006 stereo
