Omega General Help / NEARLY passed the MOT.....
« on: 11 September 2017, 10:06:26 »
.....with advisory on one front tyre and a fail on the other one.
I don't want to start another tyre thread, but could you guide me to a reasonable non-ditchfinder tyre or two, please gents.

General Car Chat / Possibly Omega's last MOT.
« on: 07 September 2017, 18:35:17 »
I view next Monday's MOT with some trepidation. You may have read my posts about a mysterious coolant leak, which despite UV tracer dye I have been unable to identify with any certainty and applying resin to the suspect areas, I am still losing coolant - which means I probably need a new radiator.
If the MOT man gives me bad news on Monday, then the expense of a radiator plus a few woes that I know about and any others that he could tell me about could easily write off my much-loved steed.
I'm not religious, but your prayers areked for Monday, please.....  :-*

General Discussion Area / Screwfix giveaway.
« on: 06 September 2017, 21:32:28 »
Yesterday, Screwfix sent me a flyer offering a free kneeling mat and a coupon for a packet of three (NO, not them!) cutting discs, usual price £2.99, for 99p.
I took advantage of both offers and I can say thet the kneeling mat is great for my arthritic knees, lovely thick supportive sponge.
If you don't get the flyer through your door, I bet they would let you have a kneeling mat anyway - worth a try if you are near a branch.

Omega General Help / Tyre pressure caps.
« on: 04 September 2017, 21:26:11 »
I mean the type that fit in place of the dust caps and show red or green, depending if all is well or not.
NOT the posh jobs that Nige has, my pension would shrivel and die! My arthritic knee joints don't like bending to remove the caps at the garage compressor on a regular basis, so a quick walk around the car daily would be better.
Anyway, the question is, are they any good?

Omega General Help / It sounds like a flat tyre.....
« on: 03 September 2017, 13:27:57 »
Strange flat-tyre sounding noise coming from the offside front wheel, almost like a clicking noise once every turn of the wheel.
No flats anywhere, no stones in treads - any ideas please, gents?
I did think wheel bearing, but not once, briefly, every wheel turn, surely?  ???

Omega General Help / Poor screenwasher performance.
« on: 29 August 2017, 15:09:32 »
Suddenly today my screenwashers (all jets) gave a feeble piddle of wash fluid. First and easiest thing was to shove a pin down each jet. No change and the pin came out clean.
Is there a filter in the system somewhere that might be clogged and if so, how do I get at it, please?
MPT next month and this is one of the things that I need to get right, so any advice would be welcome, please.

General Car Chat / My mystery water loss - again!
« on: 30 July 2017, 18:15:29 »
Uv tracer dye, UV torch, random glowing spots but no positive identification. Still losing coolant after many attempts to seal the likely areas with epoxy - at least long enought to get to Serek's!
I am considering buying a new radiator from the recommended ebay vendor, but unless I have missed the obvious, I cannot see a simple (for idiots) outline procedure in the Maintenance Guides. Can anyone help, please?

General Car Chat / What was the other car?
« on: 27 July 2017, 20:58:04 »
Did anyone see Celebrity Antiques Road Trip this evening? of the features cars, one was a Lamborghini in a putrid lime (snot?) green and the other was - well, that's the question - something in a rather tasteful maroon/plum colour, but I don't know the marque. I am guessing Maserati, as both celebrities were Italian chefs, with lots of pantomime italian arm-waving!

Admin., and whoever is responsible for managing this site, softwars et al.
I was having a ponder in an idle moment about how smoothly things run here, without fault most of the time and that doesn't happen by accident: it requires dedication and hard work, so thanks gents.  :y

General Car Chat / Radiator catch tray?
« on: 26 June 2017, 21:28:55 »
Not the best description in the title, but what I'm looking for is a large tray to drain the radiator into without going to a garden centre.
I don't want a cheapo bowl from poundland, because if they have the capacity, they are too tall to go under the Omegaand I'm on the front lawn, so can't really lift the car, nor do I want to do it in the road.
I know it's a trivial question, but despite that I know I will (usually) get a sensible answer!  :y

General Discussion Area / Ranking system on OOF?
« on: 26 June 2017, 10:25:10 »
I'm sure this must be listedon here somewhere, but I can't find it. Can anyone tell me what the ranking/star system means and how many posts you need to qualify as a Senior, etc., please?

General Car Chat / ECP code reader offer
« on: 23 June 2017, 10:44:03 »
EuroCarParts are currently offering a code reader OBD-II for £19.99. Is it likely to be any good?

Omega General Help / Kwik-Fit lifetime brake guarantee.
« on: 16 June 2017, 08:20:29 »
Has anyone had experience of this guarantee?
My brakes were OK at MOT time, but probably need new pads by now and as they were replaced ages ago (I don't do many miles nowadays, after retiring!) I'm hoping that they will still honour the guarantee - or will I be better off going to the OOF hero, Serek?

Today I noticed what looked like a round black sensor hanging down from the flap under the steering column for the fuse box. I dropped the flap and the sensor dropped, attached to a couple of yards of cable! Any idea what it is, please?
The last person to drop the flap was the Green Flag man, in a vain search for the diafnostic socket - so what has he disturbed and is it important?

Omega General Help / Wounded front bumper!
« on: 29 May 2017, 22:49:20 »
I have a scuffed front bumper due to a close encounter of the embarrassing kind! It seems also to have collected a little of somebody else's dark paint - unless it is undercoat showing through?
Either way, my question is how best to refurbish it?
I am totally inexperienced in this kind of restoration and I would appreciate some simple, step-by-step guidance as to how to proceed, please. Don't assume that I know ANYTHING, except perhaps how to go out and buy a rattle-can!
