Title: Keswick Meet - What ya bringing?
Post by: Chopsdad on 16 May 2007, 23:20:52
Lots of kind offers by PM on what we should bring etc.  No good if we all turn up with BBQ's but no food so I'll start it off.

As I have a caravan, I also have the luxury of a fridge and small freezer so I'll bring 6 eggs and a pack of bacon :y

Ok guys its over to you.............

I've just got a spangly new folding gas barbecue I'm itching to try out so I can bring that.  8-)
Bit lacking in the furniture department. Will bring a couple of chairs but if someone's got a table it'd be good. :y

Anyone into real ale? There's a decent small brewery in the village. Was thinking I could pick up some. Guess it depends if we're likely to be sitting round drinking at the camp site or in the pub - or not drinking at all of course  :( Which in turn depends on the weather ::) I think my arrival on  Friday will be late evening so we're talking about Saturday night. Anyone want to hazard a guess on how many pints? 17? 34 :o

Kevin

I have a 12v/gas/240v fridge, assuming it will fit in car.  Not good enough to quickly chill beer, but OK for keeping supplies chilled...

Well I'll be bringing myself, something to sleep on & some tinnies so I guess I'm relying on other people!
I can bring some frozen pre-packed stuff but that will only be good for Sat morning I guess.
Hope there's a half decent shop in the village....

:D I've no garden furniture but a small portable barbie & coal which i can use with pan & oil(magnatex anyone?) to fry off onions mushies etc while the big barbie does meat etc.
Can get bacon lincs saus from butchers, freeze, then throw in coolbox to defrost on way up.
I'll be taking route 66 as i spend too much time on motorways all week so will scrape up any roadkill!

I can bring a LARGE marquee, if there is a need and/or the ability to allow its erection, as well as a couple of tables and benches...

I would really need to know before monday morning as its probably going to be booked out for use by others at a meeting monday morning for our weekend, unless we get in there first.  I do not want to book it and possibly deprive others, if we can suffice without....

Chopsdad - did you say you were going to contact the owners to see if we could put up such a thing?  Kinda pivots on that, really....  Please get back to me as soon as poss.  Ta.

Me and her will probably knock up and offer a chilli or a curry for saturday night, to go with the burgers and other kit thats on offer.

I have a couple of camping tables but as its a family event for me not sure if i will be able to fit it in the car once I pack in everything else. I will bring some bacon and sausages and that, burgers for the barbie. By the way what time are folks planning on arriving there, I am hoping to get there by 1/2 o'clock on Friday as its a 5 hour drive for me.

We'll be leaving Gaydon at 12ish on Friday, so should be there 3/4ish

I have a 2 ring (and small grill) gas cooker which we'll bring.  I have a 2nd one, but probably can't fit it in car unless someone near me has space?

Also, have gas fridge - ideal for keeping food chilled, but not up for beer chilling. - If it will fit in the Omega, that will come as well.

I will see what I can get table/chair wise, though again, space in car may be the problem.

Some barbecue stuff.
Beer (real ale!) and 'wife beater'
Sleeping kit
Tool box (maybe, not decided yet)
A tent, unless I can scrounge some room in somebody elses tent.

Got access to loads of tentage and cooking kit as well so if anything is needed then just ask.

We'll have a spare section in our greenhouse tunnel tent if you couldn't be bother to bring one. Its a section supposedly for 2, but really only big enough for 1.

If I can scrounge a 'wing' of 'The Boys Towers' it would be appreciated as I doubt I will arrive much before 9.00pm......and then I need to be focused on 'catching up'.....

Ow yes, dont let me play with cars at 1.00am when arse holed, particularly not Volvo brakes like I did on Chezk Wrecks

Keeping you out from under a bonnet will be difficult - arseholed or not ;)

Shame I'm not taking the tractor (err, well its not actually), you could whip off the head, sort it all out, and fix it in between arriving at 9pm and bedtime.... ;D

I can no longer bring the marquee as it is out on a cash hire elsewhere that weekend.  We would have had it as a freebie....

Chopsdad did a great job of trying to get info from the site owners as regards permission and costs but unfortunately we were unable to get the correct information early enough.

Looks like pop up gazeebo's and tent fronts then!!

Just got back from my holls and catching up here. there seems to be plenty of BBQs going so maybe leave ours at home and bring some grub instead, burgers, kebabs, bangers etc etc. Chopsdad did you have any luck as regarding putting up a gazebo because as mentioned before we have a largish one with sidewalls and all which i would be more than willing to bring along if we have permission to put it up. If you can let me know asap as i will have to dig it out. Will also bring along a couple of tables and a few chairs too if needed. Cheers, Jez

Broocie had a 20ft x 40ft tent that was just a wee bit too large, but the site owners say big tents, gazebo's etc are all ok.   :y

Might be safer if we get our own but bear in mind that some of our number are not experienced campers and may require a wee red cross parcel or two...   ;D

More than happy to contribute to the greater good as regards stuff to burn on a BBQ but I know that some folks will probably wander to the local pub for a meal.  T'other half hinted that this evening, rather than a Broocie cook-a-thon :D

Yeah me too, but as some of us will have kids, and should we have a BBQ on the saturday, then maybe a kitty may be useful and buy up there, as i spent 60 bucks on grub for the cambelt meet in feb and most of it ended up at Maxv6's, save having to kart a load of gear up, don't mind bringing gear up for a BBQ friday evening, as wont have a problem trying to keep it fresh til saturday, is anyone bringing a BBQ?

If we are confirmed for a BBQ on Saturday evening, then no reason why we couldn't perhaps collect £x per head on the day then have an expedition to the nearest supermarket and get (food) supplies.  Perhaps will save a bit on waste, where peeps may well bring stuff thats been frozen, now defrosted and not going to be used so must then be binned as it cannot be refrozen?

OK, what are we doing about food etc - each take our own, or arrange some kind of kitty, and someone/peeps get it all?

Might be safer if we get our own but bear in mind that some of our number are not experienced campers and may require a wee red cross parcel or two...   ;D

More than happy to contribute to the greater good as regards stuff to burn on a BBQ but I know that some folks will probably wander to the local pub for a meal.  T'other half hinted that this evening, rather than a Broocie cook-a-thon :D
I agree :y
Yeah me too, but as some of us will have kids, and should we have a BBQ on the saturday, then maybe a kitty may be useful and buy up there, as i spent 60 bucks on grub for the cambelt meet in feb and most of it ended up at Maxv6's, save having to kart a load of gear up, don't mind bringing gear up for a BBQ friday evening, as wont have a problem trying to keep it fresh til saturday, is anyone bringing a BBQ?
:DYes & coal but only a small one!!! still good 4 frying onions in a pan etc [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I'll gladly contribute as I won't be able to bring anything, failing that the pub sounds good!

bringing camping stove and grill too, also have a small gas camping BBQ, spotted a wee roond stand BBQ in asda the day for a fiver, but the disposable BBq at a lower price and with coals, so yet to decide on that one. No fridge thats too posh for camping ;D

I reckon a kitty for food is a good idea. That way we can all turn up, decide what we want to do, how we want to cook it, etc. and there'll be less wastage if we do a single, concerted run for supplies rather than shop individually. There's also less likelihood of ending up with loads of burgers and no baps, etc. I reckon either we do that or we each look after no.1 and buy what we personally want to eat and nothing more.

I've got a folding gas barbie (well, actually more of a grill, not a proper barbie). It will cope with most barbie food but it excels at fried breakfasts. Now, do I bring the 1/2kg compact gas bottle for it or the 15Kg butane cylinder?  :-/

Depends on space in the car I guess.

How many people are bringing BBQ's as I seem to have lost count somewhere along the line?

I was wondering if I need to bring a largish sized gas BBQ (same one I took to Santa Pod last year), but if there's quite a few people bringing one I won't bother coz it's a bit of a pain not being a proper portable one. However, I don't mind if it's going to come in useful.

Thoughts.....................?

Well, thats 3 - 4 lbs plus of steak mince turned into a large pot of chilli, just waiting for a reboil on Saturday night.

Also been told theres a chicken curry going as well as a fair spread of potential carbon BBQ offerings.

Should be a feast, with the potential for chronic ring sting on Sunday!   ;D

Ah, a nice hot chilli :D - can I be your best friend ;)

(Though, I don't want to sleep too near your tent afterwards, due to methane seepage ;D)
