Cautionary note...
« on: 26 April 2015, 17:54:46 »

Fitting B4s to a saloon, and had advised the owner to buy the fitting kit from Vauxhall as the rubber parts tend to wear over time and the metal parts tend to corrode onto the shock rods...

The B4s are supplied with a top mount kit which is far inferior in design and appearance to the VX kit.

However, upon putting the car back together, it became apparent that the VX fittings don't fit.

On comparing the shocks, the threaded part on the VX shocks is about 10mm longer than that of the B4s, which coincidentally is the difference in height between the genuine and Bilstien supplied ones.

The point being you cannot use the genuine mountings, either new or used if fitting B4s to an Omega saloon unless you use the Estate lower top mounting and insert bush.

I am on the sofa in the prone position as I type. It's still light though.

And considered an upgrade over the oe shocks. Slightly firmer and take lowering up to 30mm. Which oe don't unless lsc which are harder to get from vx.

Interesting, based on the other post I was about to order the VX kit.

You used the kit supplied with B4's and all ok?

Or are we now saying get OE shocks?

Used an estate kit rather than the supplied one as it is far more substantial :y

Buy the shocks of choice and get a fitting kit to suit...

The issue doesn't seem to affect the estate B4s as the estate ones have used the Vx kit without issue :-\

Yes saloon kits are available as kits, estate parts need to be ordered separately according to my most recent purchase of them back in Feb :y

Part numbers are in the other rear shock thread, but can provide definitive estate numbers when I get home tonight :y

As promised...

Estate shock top mount parts...

90447244 Cup x 4 £2.40 (washer, four required, saloon and estate)
90250288 Rubber Bumper x 2 £3.97 (top mount upper rubber, two required, saloon and estate)
90447245 Insulation x 2 £3.14 (top mount lower rubber, two required, estate only)
90447245 Spacer Sleeve x 2 £2.49 (fits inside top mount lower rubber, two required, estate only)

Saloon Insulation and Spacer Sleeve are different, both longer by nearly 10mm.

Securing nut not listed, as these are supplied with the shocks as a rule, but GM ones only fit GM/Irmscher shocks.
B4s have a different pitch thread to the GM ones, so use the nut provided with the shocks.

Prices are retail, per item and ex VAT :y
