Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Self leveling headlight removal
« on: 07 November 2020, 20:08:31 »
I would imagine that you can get good 2nd hand sensors for £20 each. Or less. Did you bin both of them?

The system should point the headlights down under error conditions, so I imagine your adjusters in the headlights are trashed, which is a separate issue that also needs resolving.

To remain legal, you would have to remove your headlights, and replace them with halogen units from a GLS or CD model, along with the light switch. You would have to do some rewiring as well.

Hence, easier/cheaper to fix what you have.
40 quid for one ebay, its just the fun of finding them, alot of people dont want to sell them as there rare, yeah ill have to have a look into it

As for the legal side i dont understand why having manually adjusting xenons would be illegal, considering cars from the same era came with manually leveling xenons too, surely as long as they can go up and down with control they would be fine?

I binned the level sensors on the wishbones because they were destroyed ages ago, im just wondering if you can wire the headlights so you can adjust them up and down manually rather than having to purchase new sensors? Atm ive taken the motors plugs off because as soon as you turn the car on the headlights point up to the sky, so they adjusted to be legal atm using the adjusters on the actual headlamps

Evening guys, anyone help me with my self leveling headlights, they never worked when i had the car and its a pretty pointless system, as for the prices of replacements :/ anyone know if you can convert them to manual? So i can control the height from the headlamp switch? Its a 2002 2.6 mv6, cheers

use the backplate from your cars 2 top idlers if your new one is different
setting up the belt is complex

i don't want to change it mate, as i need them for my 2.6, just want a guide on how to time and tension the short backplate kit with 3 tensioner pulleys on a 3.2 there must be some instructions, if not ill get a garage to do it, didn't know there was a dvd tho
You will still need the timing kit as many who didn't bother have discovered. :y

yeah mate ive got the kit  :y just need to know what the tension sequence is or if its the same as all the other engines with 3 tensioner pulleys ???

Omega General Help / 3.2 timing and belt tensoon

evening everyone, hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this issue im having, i brought a timing kit from gates for my 3.2 v6, and found out there are 3 diff types, the type i have is the one with a short backplate and come's with 3 tensioner pully's, i would add pics but i have no idea how  :( the haynes manual only shows the tension sequence for the 2.5/3.0, does anyone know if the belt tension sequence (and amount of tension) is the same for all the kits? no matter the location of the idler pulley ? as mine is higher than the one in the Haynes book, hope that makes sense, cheers

Omega General Help / Re: 2.6 , which cams are better for low end?
« on: 04 January 2019, 12:40:51 »
I'm 99% certain that the ECU hardware is the same, but there is a config difference.  Whether or not this switches in a different map, I've never bothered to look.

It'll need an authorised Tech2 to change that setting.

I seem to recall the injectors are different as well, so use the injector rail from 3.2.

The 3.2's biggest issue (for NA) is piss poor CR, for emmissions reasons and penny pinching.  You'll probably want to get the CR back up to 3.0 standards if running NA.  If blowing, don't over do the boost. Plus you'll need a custom map.

Well ive just purchased an 3.2 ecu kit just to make sure, only 90 quid, rather be safe than sorry ha, ill stick the 3.0 injectors in as they have a 10cc more spray and then the 2.6/3.2 fuel regulator, as ling as it runs as a standard 3.2, i have a bassline to start from, just reading up on little tricks and tips to increase performance, finding someone to remap is going to be the hardest part :/

Its okay guys, had a think about it and just gonna stick the 3.2 in, bit more tunable and better gains too , hopefully in the next couple of weeks, will i need the 3.2 ecu and fob ect etc? As I've been told the 2.6 ecu will run it fine :/

If its an auto you'll need the gearbox as well,3.2 will eat the AR25 :'(

Nah shes a 2.6 manual wanted to keep the 2.6 gearbox for better gear ratios, so ill need the ecu kit, and that will be it yeah?

Fill it with V Power and make sure the timing is absolutely spot on. Fresh plugs and air filter will probably help too.

Yeah she gets run on v power 24/7 , timing should be fine, got a few plans for her this year, building a new induction system for her to replace the dual ram, she's losing a lot of weight, going to get heads ported and polished, lightened flywheel, remap, few other things and then supercharged

Cheers guys for the replys with this, it was only a thought as have seen it discussed in many forums but noone could stipulate if it was worth it or not, i do currently have a 3.2 im rebuilding but looking at insurance quotes for an engine swap just wouldn't be worth it, so may come to sell it, just trying to squeeze as much power of the little 2.6 as i can  :)

Omega General Help / 2.6 , which cams are better for low end?

Afternoon, does anyone know cam set up in a 2.6 is better for low end performance increase? I currently have a 2.6 with the original cams in, ( not sure what they are though)
Read up alot of stipulation on what cams to put in, G+A  or G+G, i have 4xG cams already, although im slightly concerned as 2 of the g cams where from my 3.2 and the other 2 i purchased i have no idea what engine they came from. Would the best setup for low end be G+A cams? And does the 2.6 already have A cams in? Cheers!

Omega General Help / Re: Diesel gearbox on a 3.2
« on: 27 August 2018, 16:43:41 »
Hey, I've just recently acquired a 3.2 lump for a future conversion (needs gaskets changed and painting) currently have a 2.6 at the moment and the gearbox would melt under the 3.2, but was wondering if a 2.5td gearbox bolts onto the 3.2 lump, not sure if its been done before, i know there alot stronger and the gearing ratio is better any help would be appreciated  ;D

The standard TD box is an AR25, which is barely strong enough for the TD, certainly not if the latter is chipped as mine was. The AR25 can be physically made to fit a 3.2 by swapping the bell housing, as I have done the reverse, fitting an AR35 from a 3.2 to a TD with a new bell housing. But an AR25 would not last until the first set of lights, if that, on a 3.2. :y

Ah cheers buddy, so will defiantly need a ar35 or an r28, i was wondering it i could run the 3.2 on the 2.6 geaebox for a while, but dont want to risk being broken down somwhere  :D i know it a fairly easy conversion but do you know what acutally is needed to be swapped from the 2.6 to the 3.2? Ive been told everything but that dosent narrow it down  ;D ive heard that 2.6 manifolds and inlet's was alot better than the 3.2 ones?

Nicks engine will have the box you want attached. Just buy that, use the box for your car, sell the engine on and you have a free gearbox.  ;)

I spent way too much on the car this month as it is, i can't afford another engine, I've got to find somewhere to put my 3.2 first, let alone another engine and gearbox  :D

Cheers lads, was worth an ask, ill either search for an r28 or an ar35, seen a couple on ebay, i managed to get the 3.2 very cheap so going to do all the gaskets and paint, or i could nick the corvette gearbox off my dads lotus omega  ;D :D
