Speaker questions
« on: 13 April 2019, 12:35:16 »

Having tried-and failed-for some time to find a replacement Bose CCR2006 or a compatible NCDC unit it would seem I'm down to swapping in my Blaupunkt head unit and multi-changer.Obviously to do this I need to change the speakers, from the excellent guide on here I know the size of the door speakers, but what of the sub woofers in the rear shelf? Are these wired from the boot amp meaning that in bypassing this[as I'd have to do]I'd lose the use of these?Or are they wired separately and therefore need replacing like the door speakers? If the latter does anyone know what size they are?

On the Bose System each Door Speaker and the Sub Base at the rear is powered and wired separately from the Bose Amp so its an all or nothing job.

Scratching my Head Im trying to think whether I have a Bose CCR2006 hidden away somewhere.  :-\

Forgive the stupid question (pleeeease), but why is the Bose system so revered?

Pretty much all Bose OEM Car Audio stuff was designed to be All or Nothing due to the strange Audio Levels they use, making it pretty much incomparable with any other Off the Shelf replacement ICE systems, the 2 Ohm speaker thing, well thats just another way of squeezing more Power from the Amp without investing in High Power Inverter stages, bearing in mind we are talking a 12v Source here.

Bose have always been a bit weird with there stuff which stems back to the 50's and 60's when they were assigned specialist work by the US Government, there main beliefs back then is that there is no such thing as a Flat Response Speaker, so why bother making a Flat Response Amp, up until recently and except for the later PA Stuff, all there Amps were frequency Boosted to suit thier crappy Speaker Response, by mainly increasing the Lower and High Spectrum (Base and Treble boosted) so as to match the Speaker design and get a half decent noise out of it. Again making there HiFi component totally incomparable with any other stuff.

Having said all that, they can come up with some decent and clean sounding equipment and systems, a few years back I bought a pair of there Noise Cancelling Headphones and they really do sound the business, they only other pair of Cans that compare are my old set of Sennheiser C1 Reference Headphones which dont get taken outside of the House.

Spoiling a nice flat amplifier to tailor it to inadequate speakers, Zirk? That seems like trying to get two wrongs to make a right!
Everyone else prefers to get the amplifier to have a level response, and then put money and effort into making good speakers.
However, I agree that their noise-cancelling headphones are splendid.
I do have a certain involvement with them: I was at Cambridge University when the Electronics Professor was tasked with developing a sound-cancelling system for eventual use in Bose's headphones, and it was very impressive. One demonstration was to put a lit bunsen burner under a vertical glass laboratory tube (oh, the roar!) and feeding a phase-shifted sound back to it - result, near silence! That "burner" sound replicated the sound of jet engines in a plane very well, which was why Bose funded the research - to sell to "Frequent Flyers".....
