Has anyone changed the thermostat on a 2.6 V6 and is it as horrendous as I fear?

Allow for a new transfer tube,which does come with both o rings,approx £15+vat,thermostat it self can be changed,i got mine from unipart for £12 but from what ive heard last week is unipart has closed down and in liquidation,use proper thermostat gasket from vx,pattern 1s are not a good fit.

the Wahler thermostat is I believe the same as the GM but with the GM name filed off. Much cheaper than GM. Quite a lot of stripping down to fit but well worth it if yours is sticking. Mine was staying open only a fraction but with the replacement heating up of the system is much quicker. It is said to improve MPG as well

Thanks, Robson., and all other answerers. Where can I buy a Wahler thermostat? I looked up Unipart, as suggested, and found them to be expensive.
I certainly do need a new one as my car takes ages to show any increase on the temperature gauge - not good with the weather we are now moving into!
It will also adversely affect fuel consumption with the engine taking so long to reach its efficient operating temperature and I can't afford the extra petrol!

Try Vauxhall world parts. Good service and mainly oe parts (ive found) there in barking i think.

Fitted a Wahler stat on my 2.6 earlier this year and working all OK, one thing to note is the flange is thinner than original so shorter bolts or cutting down of originals req,d,yep fitting is a pita but you will get there in end just get in a good supply of sticking plasters. :y :y :y
