So where are you putting the christmas tree?  :)
Working for a large corporation that positively goes in for positive discrimination, we are not allowed Christmas Trees for fear of upsetting other religions and beliefs.

I call bullshit on that - as there is a bloody great big tree on the tower at Adastral Park ;)

Because there aren’t many mechanics these days, just fitters.  ::)

And they're expected to diagnose and repair increasingly complex systems too - carburettors and distributor ignitions are simple and so are their faults. That is not true of modern inter-connected electronics

Indeed

Pulled the prop shaft off of the work HiLux - it’ll be a FWD for a week or so whilst I refurbish the prop. Should be a bit quieter and nicer to be in now though  :y

Indeed,
all the sensors to reduce emissions etc and no room to get at things make repairs a pain.
it is nice to be able to read fault codes and look at live data ,which you could not fo back in the day .
no one bothers doing big ends these days, just scrap the car, I did a full rebuild on a corsa including shells ,rings, lifters etc etc early this year and parts alone was £400 ,more than the car was worth if you included labour (which was fee because i did it) but it meant the engine was sorted and the corsa was for a family member,
I feel sorry for people who don't have a clue ,and just take their car to a main stealer for £500+ of repairs on a regular basis .
cars seem to be built in chunks now, computer says replace this chunk , so that big expensive chunk gets replaced, rather than stripping it to replace the 10p  O ring ,that caused the issue.
A "throw away society" that talks about recycling  :(

Good luck Andy. Let me know where you are moving to!

A personal thanks as you’ve helped me with parts numerous times over the years.

Anyone have any experience or knowledge of Accelera Phi R,s  ?

Not as good as the Alpha IMHO, but probably more than sufficient for your needs 😉

(I found them lacking slightly for my requirements, but I’m much more sedate now anyway)

Omega General Help / Re: 5/6 speed auto box
« on: 10 November 2018, 00:23:52 »
You only need lots of gears in an autobox when you have a narrow power band. This is why modern diesels have them. A multi valve petrol engine that will happily rev to 6500rpm but is tuned for torque simply doesn't need 6 gears. Nor does it need a close ratio manual gearbox.

The V6 engine and gearing is an excellent match for a road car.

Although an extra gear for cruising wouldn’t go amiss ;)

You can do the pedal trick too ;)

My next one is on my daughter’s birthday and number 24 :y

The 5 years they wouldn’t let me donate because of my back have made a big dent in the Total I’ll likely reach.

Thank you for your donation as Mrs LD has 6 units in 4 months to keep her alive during the final trimester of pregnancy as her diseased bowel was trying to kill her!

Pressure washers are not good for paintwork, you're better off with a hose and adjustable rose, and a bucket and sponge. 2 buckets if its a nice car.

You mean Kosovans? ::)

Going up the M1 last night, around the MK area. Personal plate of some form..

.. but then I thought "Nah, can't be. It's only doing 70 and it's in the middle lane." ;) ;D
I'm sure once I get around to my 3.5hrs of being patronised, I'll be a reformed character, and drive at 50....

I had a bit of an issue on mine... They didn’t understand the rules for pickup trucks and kept trying to say that it depended if a business paid VAT on it or not. I politely suggested they looked into it before the next course as they were advising people incorrectly - even threatened to record them so if I was stopped by the police I had proof they had told me the speed limits  :-X ::)

No excuse for the govt not to mandate that all new cars have mobile phone 'jammers' fitted to the steering wheel air bag. If the ignition is on, then the mobile phone would not work if within 3 feet of the centre of the steering wheel. Job Jobbed. Next.

Except hands free operation is legal and, in some lines of work, essential.

I see plenty of people playing with the radio or heater controls and veering across lanes. Perhaps we should just ban drivers from cars and go autonomous  :-X ::)

But then every driver would need a radio transmission licence like the main mobile firms.  Hence, jammers are illegal here.

Yes it would require legislation, but it doesn't need to be a real 'jammer' in the military sense. It needs to be the equivalent of a very low power wifi hotspot. If the driver turns the phone on, it connects to the nearest 3G/4G/5G 'network' - which is the steering wheel - which just dumps all the packets.

Similar system could be used to secure prisons. I just don't understand why the govt don't allow such 'jammers' in these and similar secure sites.

Who says that the prisons don’t have a form of jammer? ::)
