General Car Chat / bilstein b4's
« on: 13 March 2015, 19:30:51 »
well the time came to say goodbye to my 2.2 estate and i sort of upgraded to a saab 9-5!! well upgraded in ways of horsepower anyway!! but this is an Aero which is a sport suspension car but the handling is shite compared to my old 2.2 which had the sport springs and b4's, i really liked the b4's on the omega and am really tempted to put them on again but everyone on the saab sites go for the b6's which i think would be as hard and crashy as what i've got at the moment, so my real question here is do you think the b4's are a good shock across the board or is it that the b4's are just a great shock for the omega,
thanks,
Rich.

whilst i'm ranting about the saab does anyone know offhand what diameter front roll bar is on the omega as the saab has a 21mm up front and 17mm at the back but still rolls like a ship in a storm.

Omega General Help / hit a kerb
« on: 09 September 2014, 08:09:41 »
last week whilst going to get some parts for my bike i hit a kerb hard whilst pulling into a park >:( i did in the sidewall of my tyre which doesn't impress as they aren't cheap tyres and as the money is a bit tight right now i decided to go with my winter tyres straight away, so i put them on and the front right (where i hit) must have a slow puncture so i filled it with air and went for a test drive, over 60kmph the steering wobbles like anything, i wouldn't take it on the autobahn for example it's that bad, anyone ever experienced this and have any idea what it would be, it feels like the wheel itself is bent but that's not the case as it's another complete set of tyres, could it be that the tyre isn't sitting right on the rim as it was completely flat?, what would be an obvious victim of a hard kerb hit, many thanks,
Richard.

General Car Chat / Tow Car
« on: 22 July 2014, 20:51:06 »
well the past two years i've been busy building an Airstream Travel trailer into a Burger stand, She is now finished and i need a car/van/truck that will tow it, it's rated at 3 ton and weighs in at 2 empty and the nose weight is large! anyone got any thoughts on what to tow it with, i'm leaning towards a zj jeep or a land rover disco, although this needs to be a cheap tow wagon and you don't find land rovers cheap over here

« on: 02 January 2014, 12:50:13 »
Hello all, anyone know if there would be enough room under the backseat to place an amp, i've bought an amp which measures 48x27x5cm and it wo'nt fit under the front seat and i really don't want to put it in the boot so if anyone knows if it would fit under the rear seat without me having to take it out! it would be appreciated,
thanks,
Rich

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / speakers
« on: 25 December 2013, 13:17:38 »
So a couple of years back i replaced all my speakers with infinity reference which have the seperate tweeter, today i decided to find out why my front passenger speakers not working and it turns out the speaker itself is broke?? never had that before i've tried it with everything including the house hifi and it's definately broke! so who's got a good suggestion for mid range peakers, i managed to shoehorn 16,5 cm ones into the front last time so i'm going to stick with this size.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / damned stereo
« on: 25 December 2013, 12:13:38 »
Hello all and merry xmas! a couple of years back i retro fitted a double din stereo to the mig and now have decided it's crap and wanted to put the old one back in, on the top of the old one is marked with  what i supposed was the code 1628 but when i put it in it carries on in safe mode i have 7 attempts left is there anywhere i can check this code or is it dealer only, i know the dealers here will sting me for the code as they do absolutely nothing for nothing!.

Omega General Help / spanner light
« on: 14 December 2013, 08:31:36 »
whilst driving yesterday the little car and spanner came on  and when i came into idle it was running rough and hunting a little after a couple minutes driving all was good again me thinks it's a duff connection somewhere that when the condensation gets in causes a short, anyone had experience of this and know where a good place to start looking would be?( yesterday was foggy and cold so a good candidate for condensation)

Omega General Help / Climate control panel
« on: 16 November 2013, 17:50:16 »
jumped in the car today and no climate control! no lights no function zip! anyone had this before, i'm hoping it's just a fuse will check when it get's light, also turned the car off and restarted straight away and it was really running rough so turned off again and started and all was fine, i sometimes get this on cold mornings and i need to restart, could this be the start of the cam sensor going?,
Rich.

Omega General Help / Headlight cleaning
« on: 15 November 2013, 20:45:28 »
I geuss this is a long discussed matter but I had a car come in to work today with yellowed lights so i masked around the surrounding area with duct tape and took to them with 600/800/1200 wet grit paper in that order and then hit them with a cutting compound and then put a nano coat on them and they came out like new and only took around 10 minutes each maybe this will help someone on here as i know the pre facelifts have this problem.

General Car Chat / Saab 9-5
« on: 15 November 2013, 14:19:46 »
Hi all, i was perusing the used ads over here and came across a saab 9-5 from 99 with the b308(150,000 km) motor in it which the timing belt has jumped a couple of teeth, is this worth fixing? what would i be up against new valves? or is it likely the pistons would be damaged as well? I'm geussing the repair isn't going to be cheap i've done a bit of research but any extra info would be great sa i'm sure there's plenty of people on here that know this lump better than me,
regards,
Rich.

Omega General Help / tramlining
« on: 19 October 2013, 18:39:20 »
o.k i'm going to readress this issue after giving up on it so many months ago, whilst doing my back brakes (pita by the way!) i had to take the heat shields off and i managed to inspect the universal joint on the drive shaft which i always suspected was a bit knackered as on backing off there is a reverberation back through the car so this doesn't disturb me so much as i have now lived with it for two years!! my question is could this be a source of tramlining, my winter tyres don't tramline but my old summer  tyres (premacy or pilot? not really sure but standard fare for the omega) were pretty bad for it unless i pumped them up really hard, then i went to 18" wide tyres 225's or something falkens and they still tramlined so this is an issue i geuss with tyre widths bringing this out more  , is this uni joint on the driveshaft a replaceable part as i would be interested to see if this could be the source and i will have the car on the lift next week doing the oil change before winter anyway, wade in let me know your thoughts.
