« on: 27 October 2019, 10:46:25 »
I was going to take a trip to the tip, but remembered previously that OOF members may be able to make use of them, either themselves of for small clubs they may be involved in.

Wow, he did the marathon in under 2hrs.

20yrs ago, I never thought I'd see that in my lifetime, when we were still 15 mins off it.

General Car Chat / Wheel part name

Hmmm, does this bit have a correct name, as my searches for centre caps seem to only return the smaller round ones....

General Car Chat / Petrol can recommendation
« on: 21 September 2019, 14:44:14 »
Anyone recommend a 5l petrol can?

I'm cheesed off with the cheap shite, which invariable leaks, either with the cap on, or when using the spout. It seems none of the plastic ones have proper seals now, and as I'm sure you can imagine, I get nervous about escaping petrol fumes in the garage.

I know metal is the answer for better quality/seals, but I don't want a 10l can due to size.  TBH, 5l is more than enough to keep my lawnmower and generator watered for 2-3 years.

General Discussion Area / BBC reporting...
« on: 18 September 2019, 18:35:11 »
...about Oxford's council proposal for charging every company £600 per year for each parking space they "use".

So the dumbass bimbo reporter, commenting on the impact to the JR Hospital, stated this "could run into thousands or pounds".  No shit sherlock, 2 parking spaces would run into thousands of pounds, and I'm sure that the JR has thousands of spaces.

General Discussion Area / A2 Stainless bolt...
« on: 30 August 2019, 17:44:12 »
...despite me checking the thread length with a useless egay seller, they have sent me some bolts with insufficient thread on.

Can I use a normal die to put a longer thread on?

Omega General Help / LPG Shut off coils
« on: 17 August 2019, 08:56:12 »
TBE intermittently won't switch to LPG, errors are low pressure.  Suspicion is one of the shutoff valves isn't operating, but its just a little bit too intermittent to prove.  Although it is getting worse.

Which puts me into random part changing :(

As the coils are easier to change than the actual valves, I was going to replace the coil on the vapouriser first (as its the easiest).

Are these standard. ie, if I buy any with the correct connector, will it work?  Also, I guess Tinleytech are the path of least resistance?

General Discussion Area / Probable outage soon
« on: 09 August 2019, 17:16:15 »
We've been running on a generator for a while this afternoon due to a power cut.  Not entirely how waterproof the genny is, so it may have to go off at the next shower.

This is compounded by one of the UPS' refusing to charge, so we're down to a non resilient physical server/storage, because things are sent to try us.

Apologies upfront, but its liable to be without warning :(

This weeks 4 items...

2 are faulty
1 is fake and doesn't actually fit where its designed to go
1 looks OK

On the upside, all have turned up within the expected time.

Of the 3 faulty/fake, I can only get a response from one seller, who claimed it was fine, and has now since gone quiet since I sent the photos.

Of those 3, ebay will allow me to return 2 using their system. The other, although I specified from UK I got a Chinese paypal receipt, I suspect they are expecting me to cough the cost of return, and I bet that return address will end up being China.

General Discussion Area / Bit warm in TB Towers
« on: 23 July 2019, 18:59:36 »
There is now a precariously balanced fan pointing at the networking gear to cool it off ;D.

I suspect tomorrow one of the servers will shut itself down - it got within 2C of doing so today, so I'll probably pre-empt it and shut it down in the morning. This should have minimal impact except loss of resilience.

General Car Chat / Bimbo Brains
« on: 09 July 2019, 14:02:06 »
Having retrieved the Battlebus this morning, I parked it on the road outside my house.  Now our road might not be very busy, but its also not very wide.

So Bimbo Brains, the daughter of the woman who lives nearly opposite, has just arrived home, and parked outside her house, essentially blocking the road.

What goes through the minds of Gen Z people?  FFS

Its our fault, this is the society with bred and cultured  >:(

General Discussion Area / Thieving bastards
« on: 09 July 2019, 12:33:44 »
In this case, RM. But other couriers are as bad/worse.

Why do they feel that a handling charge of £8 is justifiable on a customs charge of £3.

Think of their profits when/if we leave the EU.

Thieving bastards.
