Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Removing diode pack screws
« on: 02 October 2022, 14:54:09 »
As part of my overhaul I'm double checking (replacing) the diode pack in the alternator with bosch replacement. I done this on my 2.6 and remember the screws were bar steward tight. On this one - the 3.2 - I got all bar one screw out. It's got colour marks on the screws blue on 2 and green on one, and a remanufactured sticker on it. Lord knows why they put those screws on so tight is it to stop schmucks like me tampering with it?  :y

Managed to get them moving with my snap on big handle screwdriver but will need a tighter fitting screw tip for this one as it seems a rather shallow depth screw, so the normal screwdriver tip is too easily working its way out the screw before much pressure is applied. tried flattening the head a bit with a punch to give the screwdriver more grip to no avail.

Anyone had similar issues with these screws for diode pack?

You on about the one that allows you out of park (check brake switch) or the one that prevents starting when in Park or Neutral?

If latter, is it better in one position (say park) than other?  How are the LEDs by gearstick when it plays up?

I think it's prevents you starting in anything other than P & N but is sort of doing it in N mainly, probably ok in park, although I usually turn ignition on, unlock the park lock, then pull into N ready to slot into D before I fire it up, just a habit I've got into with autos. Lights are ok, just got to move lever back and forth a few baw hairs while in N and you hear the starter kick on and off then it catches and goes.

Omega General Help / Black sealant 90485251 equivalent
« on: 02 October 2022, 13:04:20 »
What is the recommended equivalent gloop to use for cam cover gaskets as it seems the 90485251 isn't available anywhere I've looked. Noticed in the guide it's grey sealant being used.

Hi

02 2.6

Had this issue slowly developing over time and starting to get me thinking it's going to leave me stranded sooner rather than later and need to do something about it. I'm guessing it's the selector switch needing cleaned perhaps, but not sure. So what happens is you go to turn the key and nothing happens, if I'm in neutral, I have to jiggle the auto selector a little bit then it goes - while I have key in start position. You can hear there is an electrical / connection issue somewhere. Guessing the selector contacts are dried out and can be cleaned and regreased with switch grease or are they generally toast by this time?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Prestone Platinum Coolant
« on: 01 October 2022, 00:38:42 »
Totally agree with DG,

My 3.2 has covered 245k ..178k in my ownership and still regularly covers 100+ miles most days for work. From memory has had coil packs twice/HBV also twice and gets coolant fully replaced every 2 years and is also still on original oil cooler and HG,s.

Still runs like a well kept watch too  :)

Was the later oil cooler stainless steel and the older one (something else) alloy I guess? Pulled the cooler from my 3.2 while doing TB/Cam covers etc. had to strip it to satisfy my curiosity. Looks like brand new tbh. Sealant round the top plate was hanging out though.

What are your usual channels? Googling that part number brings up several European suppliers that list it for under £20. And as you would expect for a part that's actually an external standard connector, GM weren't the only manufacturer to use it: LINK

Probably why I'm seeing hardly any results as I'm searching for the GM part number, most come up in the states, which I would do if I couldn't get it here/EU. Ebay/Google/Surplus stock houses are my usual haunts for parts. Appreciate the link, thanks  :y

And also trying to find these, usual channels exhausted, can see some in the states with silly postage costs. Any other contacts anyone know where I can get?

13277003 HP valve for AC.

Thanks

Has the car had an accident in the parst, issues with the latching mechanism is usually a sign of stress on the mechanism.

I would just look for a second hand replacement and get it chucked in, not to tricky to do

Not that I know, he bought it quite new so imagine less likely to have been in an accident, said it was ok up until recently. Saying that I remember back in the day when we used to share our folks car, I used to tell him off for his heavy handedness with interior fittings, might be him lol! Saying that he took it to VW and it's now fixed, still got to catch up with him to see what it was they done to it.

Is that the vac box you are talking about the item 20 in this diagram?

https://opel.catalogs-parts.com/#{client:1;page:part;lang:en;category:car;catalog:v94;group:g;groupsub:0;subgroup:58-1}

The non-return is inside this so you replaced the whole vac box effectively?

After waiting several days for coil pack to arrive, fitted it this afternoon and reassembled plenum, intake, scuttle, etc, and now it runs just sweet again - job jobbed.

Vacuum non return valve ordered for multiram system, still hasn't arrived yet, but at least engine is responsive once again and under bonnet plumbing is in order.

Just out of interest, where is that located in the bay? you said it's fubared but does it give any obvious symptoms of failure other than not holding vac?

Hi

Where can I get this now 3041827 the wee valve thingy, had a look at the old links in here they are all not workie or sold out links.

From what I was reading there is a green or a red colour coded one, with one being r134 compatible and the other...not? I'm not sure hopefully someone can enlighten me!

for  2.6 02 plate.

Thanks

Probably the same part. And as long as it out lasts the warranty, I don't suspect that VAG would be too bothered either way.

And mileage is no indication of wear either... 40k miles could be 40,000 half mile trips to the shops... Or 80,000 uses of the seat belt.  ::)

Sure they test it for those kind of eventualities though, even so my 28 year old cavalier and 2002 year omegas with more than double the mileage & age have perfectly working seatbelts.
