New Router
« on: 07 July 2018, 20:08:29 »

I've recently switched from Talk Talk to Plusnet and my new router has arrived.

I've been using an elderly Belkin router for yonks and intend to try the new one in a different place in the house.  The instructions recommend using the primary phone socket, but the one I want to use which is in the centre of the house is a secondary socket.

Does it make that much difference?  :-\

TIA!  :y

If the secondary socket is taken off before any broadband/voice filters then probably, if not no as you won't have a broadband signal. I would suggest initially setting it up on the primary socket to get it working followed by a speed test and then trying it on secondary, if it works repeat the speed test to check the quality of the signal at the secondary socket.

Depends how your telephone wiring is done. And the quality of that wiring. And in the case of faults in the future, you will have to move the router to the NTE5 socket for diagnostics.

Why move it, is it for better Wifi coverage or because you need the cat5 there? There may be other options if required.

Remember the first 10 days are the training period, whereby a suitable profile is determined and put on the line, so try to keep things stable, else you may end up with a slower profile.

Also, any socket with a device plugged in needs a filter
