hmm, not many of us berkshire types up for a meet by the looks of it - how about extending the area - a big southern / midlands meet or something..

In theory I'm interested, however I can't get away much on the weekends and I have lots to do on the car.  I am working on the car this weekend, and I am free April 28th but I need to do my EM gaskets then.  Therefore, if there is a 'cambelt party' I am down for it.  If it is an evening meet I will try to make it but can't be sure.  Anything else would be very hard for me to do.

I'm not asking you to plan around me, but others may feel the same way.

Just spotted this and I'd be up for it. Not too far from Berkshire!

I'm not sure where the original poster has gone  :-/

What would people prefer then?  A nice scenic area, or a service station somewhere?  Any ideas on dates at all?  End of April sounds reasonable...

I'm up for it.

There's a cracking little transport cafe not far from M4 J12  if that sort of thing sounds appropriate.

Cheers,

Do you mean the Max Cafe on the A4 near Beenham?  Never been, looks like a 'local place for local people' setup if you know what I mean  ;D

I'm up for a meet too by the way!

Lol Richard - yes I do.  Its a smashing place and the owner is a right character too.

If you/Chris/whoever fancy a bacon sandwich sometime then count me in.

Cheers

That's a long way on an empty stomach ;)

When do you fancy (Thurs evening or Saturday mornings are good for me)?  I'll PM Chris and see if he can get a pass out.

Cheers,

Ian

If there's any work to be done I'll try and come

If it's a social meet, night times and stopovers are better, because the beer can flow....

Maybe the Tidworth one is better as a working meet?

If you are going maybe you could point me in the right direction on my thermostat James?

Ian

Anyone else welcome of course.

I take it I just head towards woolhamton and keep going until I find it? Will it be on the left or right?

Cheers

Through Woolhampton on past the roundabout at Aldermaston, past a caravan place on your left then you come to some dual carriageway - only about a half a mile long.  Max's is on the other carriageway next to a place that sells Fiesta's.
Probably best to go to the end of the dual carriageway and find a safe place to do a U turn. Then when you ae heading back aim to pull off at Berks Fiesta Centre and its immediately afterwards.

Can draw you a map tonight but its not difficult.

Cheers

Being in the South, I would pop along but Thursday nights are out for me I am afraid. :( Hope all goes well though.

Slightly off topic (sorry) but do you have any more info on your two old Cavaliers?  Year model etc?  Having a Cav myself, just interested.  Mine is a M reg CDX.  Everything works, including the Air Con. 132K on the original clutch.  Still runs and drives beautifully.

No worries.  Cavalier number 1 is a 1984 1.6GL saloon in silver green, last of the first version of the Mk2 (if that makes sense) on an A-plate.  I bought this from the second owner (the father-in-law of the first owner) back in March, the old boy is 97 and his daughter thought it was time for him to hang up his driving gloves!  115k miles, good solid condition too - needs a good polish, but the only rust was in the nearside front wing.  I say 'was' because I have replaced it with a new one, just needs a bit of fettling to fit perfectly (pattern part!) and then spraying.

Cavalier number 2 is a 1993 1.6LS hatchback, bought cheap (like sub-£60 cheap!) from eBay because the fella had listed it in 'Parts and workshop manuals'...with 10 months' MOT and 4 months' tax!  This will be getting a damn good clean, a set of wheeltrims fitted (not Halfrauds jobs!), a full service and then probably into the Freeads to help pay for more Omega fettling...

Paintwork is flatter than a witches' chest and it needs napalming inside to get rid of the stains.  Drives nice but idles high - needs the breathers clearing I think!

No more Cavaliers for me, or any other cars for the moment for that matter...no more space!

Bryan - I think it's this Thursday (10th) at 6pm - I'm sure "ians" will confirm!

Hi Bryan and welcome!

Its Thursday evening - not sure if we set a time yet - watch this space...
At Max's cafe on the A4 on the dual carriageway bit towards Newbury.

Cheers

Thanks for the update - Cavalier number 1 sounds particularly interesting and, these days, quite rare.  Good luck with them.  Having two cars myself, I know all about the lack of space!!!

I am up to six cars at the moment, although the Saab is a company car, the Granada is a running resto, and my Mazda 323 is being loaned to someone else.  The rest are Vauxhalls!  Although the Mk3 Cav nearly was no more earlier, as the rocker gasket went in spectacular fashion and dripped hot oil onto the manifold - lots of smoke and a couple of tiny flames  :o

Guess I'll be off to my local dealer on Tuesday for a new one, then  ::)

Ian - going to have to cancel, as I now need to get my Granada to the 'fettling man' - it's taken 3 months to set this up, so I will have to pass on a Max fry-up for now.  Count me in if there's a reschedule though.

I am not sure who was planning to come tonight but if it was just Richard , Chris and me, then maybe we should postpone a bit.
How about Monday evening?

Hi guys,

Sorry for lack of response, been really busy these last few days..

I agreee Ian, reschedule is in order - will please my Mrs anyhow ;)

Thanks for the offer Richard, be easier for me to leave from work in my car anyhow to be honest - I wouldn't want to leave it up here as the security types aren't up too much..

So, which day shall we arrange for now?

Cheers,

Chris.
