Maintenance Guides / How to Change Non-Climate Heater Control Bulbs
« on: 14 October 2007, 13:12:44 »
This is for those people in the cheap seats without Climate Control but who only have the standard Heating system (2 temperature, 1 Fan speed & 1 Direction control)
It is possible to change the bulbs without having to remove the Radio which means you can avoid loosing one of your resets or the use of the Radio if you do not have a Radio Pass if you were to disconnect power to the Radio

Here's how:

1) Open the Ashtray
2) Release the catch on the right-hand side of the inner ashtray part & remove it by pulling upwards
3) Remove the screw at the back of the ashtray & remove the outer ashtray part
4) Gently ease out the various switches & blanks starting with the Hazard switch
5) Remove the 2 screws at the base of the control panel bezel that are behind where the ashtray was
6) Pull off the 4 control knobs (2 temperature, Fan & Air direction)
7) Remove the 4 screws (1 behind each knob)
8) Gently pull the bezel forward about 5 cm (there is no need to remove either the radio or the little 'cubby-hole' to the left of the radio). This exposes the 3 bulbs at the top of the white plastic panel behind
9) Pull out all 3 bulbs & replace them regardless of whether blown or not. (If you have fat fingers carefully use small pliers to do this & do not crush the glass)
10) Switch on the lights to verify that the new bulbs work
11) Put it all back together in reverse order

The VX part for the bulb is 93190474 & cost me £0.71 each ex VAT

Note the screws are Philips type not Posidrive so use the correct type of screwdriver

Omega General Help / TDs in the south
« on: 21 April 2010, 19:13:20 »
I have asked this question some time ago, but are there any Traktors in the locality of Basingstoke/ north Hampshire or do I have the only one?
I have never seen another on the road since I got mine in 2003
Can they be that rare in the south of the country?

Omega General Help / TD EGR pipe
« on: 18 April 2010, 11:21:31 »
This is the stainless steel (I think) pipe that bolts to a flange on the O/S of the engine
Mine has fractured again at the point where it is attached to the engine
As this the the second time it's broken could there be a specific reason or is it just a design weakness?
How necessary is EGR on a tractor? I notice in the Range-Rover engine manual that  there were versions without EGR
Anybody got a spare one before I trek of to the VX dealer?

Omega General Help / Too many ploughed fields!
« on: 03 March 2010, 18:31:18 »
The Traktor (with 154K miles on clock) failed its MOT today.
N/S front lower suspension arm rubber bush deteriorated resulting in excessive movement
N/S & O/S rear sub-frame rubber bushes deteriorated resulting in excessive movement

What should this cost to remedy? (I will not do it myself but use local independant garage who service it every 3K miles)

Omega General Help / Traktor starting delay
« on: 10 January 2010, 11:18:39 »
It has new Glow-plugs
It starts immediately after glow-plug light extinguishes when it's warm but............
When cold i.e. like now in the freezing conditions, there is a 4-5 second delay after turning the key before starter motor turns
It starts perfectly but I'm curious about the delay
Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Viscous Fan
« on: 02 September 2009, 13:04:28 »
Mine's permanently locked up
I have taken it off to see what happens (it's a lot quieter now)
Now a feint recollection of someone on the forum having rescued a coupling by heating it, in case I have overheating problems as a result of its' removal
Can anyone remember how it was done because the chances of buying a new one that has been correctly stored (vertically) is extremely remote?

Omega General Help / TD code 54
« on: 29 July 2009, 14:54:33 »
The Traktor stopped at a junction, just after engine fault warning light came on & would not restart
Called out AA who bled the fuel filter (small amount of air) so lift pump is working (was replaced about 3 yrs ago)
Then started easily. Error code 54 (fuel pump cut-off) read.
So far starting & running perfectly
Any ideas what is going on? I am about to travel to Devon on Friday for the Sidmouth Festival & need the Traktor to behave impecably.

Omega General Help / TD Oil Cooler pipes a cautionary tale
« on: 10 June 2009, 13:22:55 »
Attention all Traktor drivers:
One of the pipes to the oil-cooler on my October '96 Traktor corroded & started to leak (made a huge mess on the driveway)
Went to VX - Ah, the pipes for your early model were superseded by the later type so we cannot supply a replacement, you'll have to buy 4 pipes & all of the alternative fittings of the later type.
How much will that cost? - I'd rather not frighten you sir, but just one pipe will cost £55 plus VAT!
e-Bay to the rescue, got a full set of the later type next-day delivery. Had to jack-up the engine to get them on but problem solved & as a bonus, there's so much oil on the n/s chassis that rust won't be a problem in the future!
So all you 'Agricultural' types - check your pipes for corrosion because if one fails it will dump all of the oil in a matter of seconds, & keep your eyes peeled for someone breaking a TD & grab a set of pipes 'just in case'!

Omega General Help / Paper Clip on my Traktor
« on: 04 May 2009, 11:13:08 »
Being a wet Bank Holiday I thought I'd see whether it was possible on my Traktor (apparently not all will work)
All I get is 12 repeated over & over - does this mean no faults logged or that mine cannot be clipped?
