Title: Electric water pump under the coolant tank problem
Post by: Finnishguy on 03 March 2017, 21:38:42
First of all, sorry for my unclear writing in english.
In my -01 omega z22xe classic has a function that when example in winter you leave the car on the parkingarea and after you've turned off the engine and taken the key off from ignition, you can push the auto button on climatecontrolpanel and it should start the heaterfan and the electric waterpump thats located under the coolingtank(or what ever it's in english:D) but in mine's the socalled pauseheater only starts the heaterfan and the climatecontrolpanel but not the waterpump because it only gives 0.3 voltage for the connection of the waterpump.
Did anyone understand what i said and ment?
It seems that here in finland allmost every B2 model omega owner has issues with this same function and i haven't found a solution yet from members of Opel Club Finland or from other omega owners.
Would you guys here have any suggestions or solutions for this?

Both of mine have the pump, it works as I can switch on with diagnostics but never managed to get them to with as you describe - real pain  :-\

I feel your pain.
In finnish forums the guys who work on opel service are talking about something about that the voltage from climatecontrolpanel is too low to close the relay that starts the pump at the same time with the heaterfan but i really would like it to work like it is supposed to even if it means some wiringjob behind the controlpanel to get enough voltage to the pump.

I had one on a vectra, similar problem, it turned out to be a temperature relay, as i see it it heats the water and when it gets above between 8c and 14c it turns the pump on,

Can someone tell the relay of the pump is located?
Is it under the steeringwheel or beside the battery?

It really can't be the only solution to make an own wiring with relay and switch for the pump.
Why would gm make a system that doesn't work even when the car is rolled out from the factory?

IT has been noted on here before that it could be a Tech2 setting also.....

On mine the pump can be enabled using diagnostics software so a software issues as to why it does not run with climate sounds plausible.

Coolant temp will play a big part in whether it runs or not... do the radiator fans work as they should? Does your Aircon work? If no to either of those, then that's where you start :y

There is a config on the climate panel that enables/disables this function, but needs Tech2 to adjust.

Worth checking wiring diagrams if you have them (I brought wrong laptop into bath, so cant ;D)

Radiatorfan and the climate works fine, allthou the climatesystem has a very tiny leak in some place that isn't easily detected because the system holds it's pressure and liquids in only about a half a summer.

Right, checked diagrams, pump is driven directly from ECU, so if it ain't getting the voltage its either wiring, or the ECU isn't bringing pin 19 to 12v.  If latter, either faulty ECU, or config programming on it/

I have something similar. When "Auto" pressed the fan starts for perhaps one minute or two and then fades away. I did not check the Voltage got to that pump but I will do that soon. I have also a laptop with possibility to check many things. Does anyone remember is there anything to just "activate" in Climate Control Section or does it need a real TECH2?

Real Tech2, as its config programming

The pump under the expansion tank, is part of the winter pack, and operates, when the ignition is off, and I think re-circ is pressed,, it opereates for about 5 mins in the cabin warm, too stop passenger getting cold, when you take keys out engine off.

The problem is that is not what actually happens all the time - sometime it needs a chat with Tech2 to enable that feature  :y

Best treated as a convenient spare for the one on the radiator  :y

Let's bring this one to the table again.
I have been stuggling with this for some days again and i found out that when i did some measurings with voltagemeter, i got even more confused.
In the relaybox beside the battery, there is a square coupling that has only one wire on it(blue/black) and thats the wire that goes to the pump.
I gave direct 12v from the battery to that wire and the pump turned on.
So then i measured the voltage coming to that wire from somewhere, i have no clue where, and as i put the minus cable from the voltagemeter to the batterys minus and the meters plus cable to the wire coming from somewhere it had no voltage, but then i put minus cable of the voltagemeter to the plus side of the battery, it showed 11.7v....
Why? Is there a short circuit or what?
My explaining isn't very clear to understand but please ask more from me and help me with this.

From Finland too, can't solve problem with this so I made new wiring trough basic relay with switch in the cabin, only using pump at winter when on HI setting. Or at summer when very hot.

Any progress on this other than tech 2, goosed ecu or fitting a relay/switch.

Tried to use mine the other day whilst breakfasting under some Golden Arches and it only ran for 90 secs or so.  Pump runs fine when connected to battery direct but multimeter is awol so can't check voltages

It only runs for as long as the coolant temp matches the climate setting... it will run longer set to 16 than 25, especially if it's cold outside ;)

Aye and there's the rub. In the 90 secs I'm guessing it maybe blew the heat out of the matrix but as the pump was not running no heat was taken from the engine which still showed 90+ on the dash when i'd finished dining.

I've got a spare lead with the right connector and a golf buggy battery somewhere so might experiement one day, but tbh it's a 14 yo Vx so I can always find bigger fish to fry. :'(
