3.2 Breather pipes.
« on: 07 June 2019, 16:40:44 »

One of the 3.2's was in at Serek's place today for an HBV change and to identify an oil leak (crankshaft seal) :o It was pointed out that the breather pipes were a bit past their best and new ones were needed. Question being....that it's unlikely to find new ones,so as a long shot, does anyone know is it likely that silicone replacements are available....somewhere out there. :-\

Ant factors should sell the original by the metre...

Of all the Omega's I have owned and driven I have never had to replace these pipes. :o :o :o

Do they actually wear out as there is, or should not be (!!)  fluid running through them?  Mine have always been made out of seemingly very tough rubber that I cannot see perishing easily.  So the need for replacement surprises me ;)

Sorry, misread the OP, and was thinking vac pipes ;D

Which pipes are you specifically looking for. I doubt replaceable with silicone.  And don't rule out unavailability of GM :y

As advised by Serek, message says breather pipes need changing and would think vacuum, also pipe from front of plenum to the expansion tank, problem found during HBV change. Can't ask him ...he's gone on a trip to Turkey. 8)

Meant to say.....HBV was changed by removing the plenum etc and accessing it from a different way but not  quite as described in the help section on this forum :)

If local stealers can't source them[I'd give them a try to see if they can]then how about the good loe U.S.of A where these engines were more plentiful/used in more vehicles?

For breather pipes, and you can use silicon, just need internal diameter, then look on eBay buy required length, and colour.

For heater pipe the same internal diameter look on eBay for heater hose buy required length.

I presume you mean the 4 hoses that plug on to the back of the breather unit on top of the plenum. They are shaped hoses, I would have thought Serek could source them if anyone could. Only triouble I have had with them is split ends.

Sounds like you need a good conditioner Terry. ;)

GM# 90467163 / Opel Katalog 56-56-013 is the bigger 'Y' hose that connects at the bottom onto the larger port onf the crankcase breather box. Mine split at the bottom under the big spring clip. A new tube wasn't available anywhere 3 or 4 years ago. I had to buy a used one on ebay.

GM# 9049162 / Opel Katalog 56-56-012 is the shaped tube that connects to the smaller spigot on the crankcase breather box. Don't think these are available anywhere either. But it should be reusable.

There might be scope to minimally trim back split ends and reuse your existing hoses. The hoses will also need to be cleaned out as the usual problem is that the hoses get blocked with oily gunk which also gets into the breather bridge.

The fourth hose connected to the breather bridge contains petrol vapour from the carbon canister and I would have thought it is unlikely to be split or blocked. Don't know the part number.

I think Terry is right about the four hoses, and apparently this is what has happened,as Serek did mention something about a vacuum leak because of one of the pipe ends not being very tight...possibly slightly split......I wasn't paying much attention,as usual ::) but he did say they would have to be secondhand, that much I do remember. The car is running fine for the time being and can wait a week or two as its got to go back in for the crankshaft seal, and I may have found the bits needed by then....or not!! :D Thanks to everyone for the advice, and this goes to show how the new spares situation is getting a bit grim, and relying on secondhand parts is going to get harder as the prices are getting silly.
