General Discussion Area / Why bother out for the sales??
« on: 27 December 2006, 11:57:44 »
Needed to rebuild my mums PC cause it was running slow, decided to get an external hard drive to back everything up to just for her machine.

Product: MyBook 250Gb External Drive. £64.98 (Free Delivery) - From Amazon

PC World RIP OFF Price of: £84.99 Online & £99.99 In store!!!  :o :o ::) ::) PLUS!!! PLUS!!!! £10 delivery for online shopping!!! WTF

Ordered: Late evening Christmas Eve
Arrvied: Today 11:45am  ;D (standard delivery btw)

In my comfy black leather office chair, quickly and easily compared prices online of the drive we wanted, stopped for some free refreshments along the way. Was cheapest on Amazon, few mouse clicks, Done.

Since all the major department stores have online shopping, what is the point in going out for Rugby style scrums??

My auntie though says "Online shopping is not safe bla bla bla" - She likes to go around with cash on her!  :o

I said your more likey to get pick pocked than have problems with online shopping, also if their is fraud most banks pay you back!!

For getting my key back together!  :y

I finally broke my key after it was getting worse and worse, posted it to Mark, and he had it fixed and retuned to me faster than Machine Mart could send me a battery charger  :y

I also finally got my megga runnning again YaYY!!!  :D

Charged the battery overnight, plugged it back in the siren started going off again!!  :-[ So tryed to start it, and the "Auto" came on the climate dash, but no lights on the main dash  :( It would turn over but not fire.

Hummm i thought, got out. Locked, unlocked... no change. Locked, deadlocked, unlocked, still no change.

Now this is where i want to thank TheBoy, for suggesting i keep handy tools in the car. Went to the boot and got out my long nosed plyers, pulled the fuses and i had blown fuse 15  :-[

Replaced it with a spare, which i also keep several of now IN the car since i blew one when working on my ice.

Went to start it, got dash lights!! YAY, but the service spanner light was blinking, turning over but not firing. Lock, unlock... start and 4 cranks later broooooom into life!  :D

Took it for a nice blast down the M4, not driven in over a month... was good to be back in the megga  :D

And now i have a shinny new working key thanks to Marks DTM Calib  :y

Ohh and i like the extra title on the package Mark sent... Mr Mark Tunnicliffe (Stu-dent)  ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / i have just screwed up BIG time on my megga
« on: 07 December 2006, 01:07:30 »
Well there i was going to bed around 11:45... then a car alarm goes off. Ohh damn its mine.

Now the lights where not going off just the high piched wee orrr sound.... my thoughts were backup alarm battery. cause that was beeping a while ago.

The car has also been stood still for nearly a month...

So went out, tryed to start it... was half dead. Few dim lights came one, spanner and EM light flashing.

So got the jump box out attached it the battery and she started.... ok i thought run it for a while take it for a spin get some charge in there and it should be done.

However the hazard warning lights came on (indicators on all around) pressing the alarm off button did'nt do anything. Pressed the boot release button on the remote, that stopped them for a while but they just came on again after a few seconds.

I then pressed "open" on the remote key with the key in the barrel and the engine running.... ohh bugger the whole car went dead, nothing.....

Turn the key off and on again, all that comes on is the "Auto" on the climate system nothing else  :o

Try and turn it over, nothing it barley manages to turn but i think its immobilsed?

So got out, tryed to lock & open it, see if that would re-set it.... now the lock button on my remote had been dogey for a while, getting harder and harder to press..... sods bloody law it was refusing to lock via the remote... so got my house key and started prodding it... must have done it too hard it just fell to bits  :'( - i was trying to pull up the plastic to get access to the button, but i totally buggered the button, its now in peices!  :o :'( :'( :'(

I have the remote key, the open button is intact, but if u press it the little red led does not flash, in other words totally buggered my key.

Being lazy and stupid thats my only key!  :'(

I did buy another new one off fleabay but its not been programed to my car yet as i was comming home at xmas to get it done by TheBoy...

So to stop the alarm going off i have disconnected the battery on the car.

I am going to have to get my parents to post me the log book for the car, so i can apply for a Car Pass at the Vaux dealer.

Question is, if i get the car pass... and the new key and forward them to TheBoy, can he program them up without the car being there??

An even better question is when i get the key back how to i get the car running again, as i seam to have emobilsed it as only "Auto" comes on the climate dash and nothing else inside the car.  :'( :'(

Ahh bugger is all i can say and going to bed now, but posting this now while i remember it all.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: The horn was not going off it was just the siren, car not used for 3 weeks. Could the backup alarm battery module take power from the main battery and drain it?

General Discussion Area / Is anyone else a scrooge like me?
« on: 05 December 2006, 15:06:00 »
I just cannot get into the christmas sprit, its fairly warm outside, but its just windy and very wet. So its the the normal weather.

Maybe if outside was covered in snow might get into it, but all these pictures on cards & TV of snow covered doors and snow in the corner of windows just has no relevance. Same with the adverts on tv of argos or whoever delivering in thick snow... bull its just bloody raining!

I Walk into the shops with all the decorations, and i just thing, god what crap!! - Same with the adverts on TV, when ever the ASDA or anyother xmas advert is on, with some bloody xmas music i immediately press MUTE on the remote.

Bah humbug!  >:(

« on: 03 December 2006, 14:30:30 »
any flash experts in the house?

Trying to embed fonts in Flash Lite 2.0, found this:

http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flashlite/2/main/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00000052.html

But seams to have no affect, curiously the exported swf on my N80 looks great, but looks pants on the N70, i want to use a an extra font i downloaded and have installed but neither of those embedding options work.

Curiously the N80 displays the font the correct size, but the N70 renders it smaller  :-/

General Discussion Area / Usefull program for the geeks...
« on: 28 November 2006, 22:48:53 »
Although you might already be using this, nifty program i have been using for a while.

Its called 'Synergy' - Its basically keyboard and mouse sharing over a network (wireless or wired), its cross platform and very good.

Not intending to show off, but i have 3 seperate computers here with 3 seperate screens:

Vaio Laptop 16" Screen (yes yes its a Sony)
Mac Mini - Connect to a 19" TFT
Normal PC - 15" TFT

3 seperate PC's networked.

Synergy allows you to share you keyboard and mouse from one computer to others. So you only have to use 1 set, its basically like a KVM with out the V  ;)

I have it set on my MacMini in both windows and Mac, i have my 2 other screens next to my 19" and i can take my mouse to the edge of the screen on the MacMini, and it magigally appears on my laptop screen!  :)

I go back can take it across 2 screens to my right hand side 15" which i use for iTunes!  :)

Really is nifty and its like having 3 monitors connected to one PC, although you can't drag windows between them.

As i said its cross platform too, so when i am on my mac in Mac, i can take my mouse across the screen from mac and it appears on my windows laptop, I can type in there with the keyboard, and whats really cool is i can copy and paste text from 1 pc to the other! Very handy

Link: http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/

Its a bit fiddly to get working, but easy enough any problems PM me  :y

There will also be a queue tools system where it will give you a live up to date queue time of a ride on your phone, i have butched up 2 designs in photoshop... what do ya think?

Please tell everyone you know about this, for sometime now i wish the DSG (Dixons Store Group) would go bust, awful, awful company.

They own:

Currys
Currys.digital
Dixons
PC World
The Link

When working at my placement for my uni course, i had to order 60 usb cables for a project... i was amazed at the price comparison:

Belkin 3 Meter USB Extension Cable

eBuyer Price online: £1.94 http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/57706 (says for iMac but all USB cables are the same)

Dixons price online: £18.99!!  :o :o :o :o :o - Wait for it .... standard delivery is £9.99!!  :o :o

Do a search on the Dixons website for product: 157205 - http://www.dixons.co.uk - All DSG sites use sh!t sessions, so my link will expire...

So including delivery Dixons want £28.98 for 1 USB extension cable!!!

F*** the DSG group!  >:(
