Gearbox filter can be cleaned and re-used if you wish to do it that way.ABS used to sell a new filter and both sump gaskets at reasonable cost.perhaps worth a PM to KeithABS? I also understand sealant can be used in place of gaskets[?]

Did you have an "Automatic Gearbox" warning on the MID/GID/CID?

Following my BMW experience, quite possibly a speed sensor/abs* wiring fault.

*not the traditional failure modes.

Box will be stuck in third. I would also wager that it won't change gear manually. Drive it any distance and you'll need a new box regardless.

Interestingly you can also con it back to using all gears by stick it in neutral.   :-[

This sounds as though a selector clean may be in order. :y

Today I drove From Bradford to Wolverhampton with lots of stop start traffic for the first 35 mins and an ambient temperature of 25 to 26 degrees C and I did not experience the symptoms.

Still, next week I'll change the oil and clean the selector.

I had the wishbones replaced in 2016 about 40K ago, but I bought the kit because there is clonking from my drop links and one of the steering arms has a little play in it, and by the time I'd priced them up it was almost as cheap to get the wishbones as well, in the kit.
